The role:
We are seeking Coal Technologist and Geologist to join our team in Mackay. You will carry out geological / metallurgical and chemical activities within the coal industry such coal wash plant sampling, production, plant audits, exploration, laboratory sample processing and plant test work under the supervision of the Manager.
Your day to day will include but is not limited to:
- Provide technical and geological governance to ensure best practise methods across geological / metallurgical and chemical activities associated with the coal wash plant sampling, on-site laboratory tasks, production work and borecore testing facilities.
- Technical support for the wider coal group across shipping, production, and wash plant activities. Analysing samples to determine their composition, structure and properties.
- Participate in Coal Handling Preparation Plant (CHPP) systematic audit as required. Assist with coal mine wash plant audits with processing of samples.
- Carry out geological / metallically processing activities such as coal beneficiation to remove rocks, dirt, ash, sulphur and other contaminant and unwanted materials to produce high quality coal.
- Ensure laboratory testing tasks are clearly understood to ensure accurate results are reported.
- Work efficiently and productively to ensure client turn arounds times are met.
- Plan and schedule test work within the guidelines and priorities set by Business Unit Manager or the Project Manager.
- Undertake laboratory analysis on production, exploration, trains and superintendent coal samples.
- Undertake coal exploration samples processing ie geochemical work such flotation and density separation as required.

What’s needed?
To be successful in this role you will need to possess the following:
- Experience working on a Mine site – on-site laboratory environment
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in coal sampling, sample preparation and coal testing
- Experience in Coal Handling and Preparation Plant (CHPP) circuits sampling, audits and processing
- Experience in Coal Exploration Programs – Coal Flotation and Density Separation
- Experience in coal training sampling, preparation and analysis
- Experience in Cole Oven Testing
- Ability to work under pressure
- Highly motivated
- Proven organisational skills
- Professional attitude
Safety is an absolute. Ongoing Drug & Alcohol testing and the ability to meet site inductions will be a requirement of working on site.
