The Role
The Ship Manager is responsible for the technical management and day-to-day sustainment of assigned CCPBs and is critical to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the fleet, supporting vessel availability and readiness for ABF operations, especially during DLM-intensive periods.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and classification society requirements.
- Supporting and overseeing scheduled (DLM, ILM) and unscheduled maintenance activities, ensuring they meet ABF standards.
- Coordinating attendance of contractors, service engineers, and OEM representatives for defect rectification or technical investigations.
- Ensuring vessels maintain valid survey and audit certifications and implementing strategies to maintain certification status.
- Monitoring planned maintenance schedules and ensuring timely corrective action.
- Maintaining visibility of critical spare parts and ensuring adequate onboard inventory to sustain fleet availability.
- Providing technical and operational advice to the Fleet and internal stakeholders.
- Managing risks and supporting decisions through technical assessments and documentation.
- Preparing briefings and contributing to reports on vessel performance, sustainment risks, and contract management issues.
- Liaising with manufacturers for specialist guidance when required.
About You
- Possess or able to obtain and maintain an NV1 security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in marine engineering, ship management, or equivalent technical sustainment role.
- Demonstrated understanding (or ability to rapidly acquire) knowledge of Small & Large Vessels Cape Class Patrol Boat systems or similar blue-water maritime platforms.
- Experience in complex, High Risk, High Value contract management would be highly regarded.
