About the Role
We are seeking a Sample Preparation Team Leader to join our Sorbonne operations team. This hands‑on leadership role is central to ensuring high‑quality sample processing, smooth workflow management, and the safe, efficient operation of crushing, milling, and robotic equipment.
You will lead a team of up to 25 Sample Preparation Technicians, supporting them to meet daily targets while maintaining strict quality, safety, and procedural standards. This role suits someone who thrives in a fast‑paced, production‑style environment, enjoys practical work, and is confident coordinating people, equipment, and processes across rotating shifts.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated leader who is ready to step into a key operational role and contribute to the continued growth and performance of our laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily sample processing activities, including sorting, weighing, crushing, and milling of geological samples
- Operate and supervise the use of crushing equipment, pulverisers, and robotic mill cells
- Lead, coach, and support a team of up to 25 staff to meet production targets and quality standards
- Allocate tasks, monitor workflow, and ensure adherence to set procedures
- Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all WHS requirements
- Conduct quality checks and ensure accurate handling and processing of samples
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the sample prep area
What We Are Looking For
- Proven reliability and the ability to work across a rotating shift roster
- Capable of performing manual tasks, including lifting sample bags up to 15kg
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow set procedures accurately
- Experience in a production, processing, warehouse, or laboratory environment (highly regarded)
- A commitment to working safely and maintaining high-quality standards
- Strong communication skills and confidence managing or leading a team
As part of the recruitment process, you must be able to complete and pass:
- Numerical and literacy assessments
- Drug and alcohol screening
Monday to Friday rotating roster:
- Week 1: 6:00am – 2:00pm
- Week 2: 2:00pm – 10:00pm
- Week 3: 10:00pm – 6:00am
Full availability across all shifts is required.
