The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to be based in Singleton and responsible for the inspection, assessment, and integrity management of structural mining assets across active and legacy mine sites.

The role focuses on ensuring the safety, compliance, and long-term performance of structures such as conveyors, transfer stations, stackers/reclaimers, workshops, crushers, screens, tanks, bins, and supporting steel and concrete infrastructure.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Structural Inspections & Assessments

  • Plan and conduct routine and ad-hoc inspections of mining-related structural assets
  • Assess the condition of steel, reinforced concrete, and composite structures
  • Identify defects including corrosion, fatigue, cracking, deformation, and foundation issues
  • Assign condition ratings and risk levels in line with asset integrity frameworks

 

Engineering Analysis & Reporting

  • Perform engineering assessments in accordance with Australian Standards (e.g. AS 4100, AS 3600, AS 2159)
  • Prepare clear, defensible inspection reports including photographic evidence
  • Provide repair, strengthening, or replacement recommendations
  • Support life-extension strategies for ageing mining infrastructure

 

Compliance & Asset Integrity

  • Ensure structures comply with statutory requirements, site standards, and design codes
  • Support audits, shutdowns, and risk reviews
  • Maintain accurate inspection and asset records
  • Assist with development of inspection scopes, frequencies, and methodologies

 

Stakeholder & Site Engagement

  • Work closely with site engineers, maintenance teams, and operations personnel
  • Provide technical advice to support safe and efficient operations
  • Interface with external contractors, designers, and certification bodies

 

 

About You

 

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience in structural inspection and assessment, preferably in mining or heavy industry
  • Strong knowledge of steel and concrete structures
  • Sound understanding of Australian Standards and mining safety requirements
  • Ability to work independently in operational environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Current Australian driver’s licence

 

 

 

Desirable

    • RPEQ or eligibility for registration (or CPEng / working toward)
    • Experience with conveyors, materials handling structures, or plant infrastructure
    • Familiarity with asset management systems
    • Exposure to structural remediation and strengthening design

 

Working Conditions & Travel

    • Based in Singleton, NSW
    • Regular travel to nearby mine sites (day trips; limited overnight travel)
    • Combination of office, site, and field-based work
