The Opportunity  

We are seeking an experienced Sample Preparation Team Leader to join our Minerals Laboratory at Wingfield, Adelaide. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will be responsible for leading day-to-day sample preparation operations, ensuring safety, quality, and production targets are consistently achieved in a high‑volume laboratory environment.

Reporting to the Sample Preparation Manager, you will play a critical role in maintaining operational stability, driving team performance, and fostering a strong safety and continuous improvement culture. You will act as the key point of leadership on shift, supporting your team while ensuring laboratory priorities are delivered to expectation.

Key Responsibilities  

As a Sample Preparation Team Leader, you will:

  • Lead and supervise a team within the Sample Preparation area, providing clear direction and on‑floor leadership.
  • Act as the senior operational contact during shift, supporting production flow and addressing issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in line with Bureau Veritas QHSE standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate and monitor the movement of inbound and outbound samples to meet turnaround time targets.
  • Drive daily production targets while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Support onboarding, training, and competency development of team members.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, safety, efficiency, and workflow.
  • Monitor performance, provide feedback, and escalate issues as required.
  • Support recruitment activities including interviews and shift coverage planning when needed.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and communication with key stakeholders and leadership.

About You  

To succeed in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience leading teams in a sample preparation laboratory, mining, or high‑volume production environment.
  • Strong understanding of sample preparation processes and laboratory workflows, or demonstrated leadership experience in production supervision.
  • Working knowledge of quality control and quality assurance procedures.
  • Sound understanding of OH&S and environmental compliance, with a strong safety-first mindset.
  • A hands-on leadership style with the ability to proactively manage people and performance.
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
  • Confidence in prioritising work to meet production demands.
  • Ability to motivate and engage others to achieve team objectives.
  • Experience with LIMS or laboratory systems (preferred but not essential).
  • Capability to deliver or support structured, competency-based training.

Roster

  • Monday to Friday - 8 hour shifts
  • Some weekends and overtime may be required
