Mechanical Engineer – Commissioning & Start-up | Data Center Project

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer specializing in commissioning to support the realization of a next-generation data center in Athens. This position is central to the final construction phase and represents the critical bridge between design/construction and the commercial operation of the facility.

You will be responsible for systematic and documented verification that all mechanical, hydraulic, and control systems are correctly installed, function safely, and operate according to project specifications. You will work in close coordination with engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance teams, ensuring a smooth transition to operational service.

Key Responsibilities

• Pre-Commissioning Phase 
• Cold Commissioning Phase 
• Hot Commissioning Phase 
• Performance Testing Phase 

Documentation and Compliance

• Draft and maintain detailed Commissioning Procedures
• Complete Inspection and Test Records (ITR) with responsible party signatures
• Manage punch lists categorized by priority (A, B, C items)
• Produce Certificate of Completion for each system/subsystem
• Update as-built documentation with actual constructed status
• Draft Performance Test Reports with conformity analysis

Coordination and Communication

• Participate in daily site meetings and team coordination
• Communicate status, risks, and issue escalation to project managers and clients
• Coordinate activities with civil, electrical, automation, and operations teams
• Provide technical feedback on design and construction for future optimization
• Document lessons learned and best practices

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or related discipline
• Preferred certifications: ASME, ISO 45001, PED, ISO 9001

Experience

• Minimum 2-3 years in commissioning of complex industrial facilities
• Specific experience in data centers, HVAC systems, cooling systems, or oil & gas/power generation plants
• Knowledge of complete project lifecycle (EPCCM)
• Experience with testing and performance verification methodologies

Technical Competencies

• Cooling systems (chillers, cooling towers, hot/cold aisle containment)
• Hydraulic, pneumatic, and air distribution systems
• Measurement instrumentation and calibration
• Control systems and automation (PLC, SCADA)
• Technical drawing interpretation (CAD, BIM)
• International regulations (ASME, ISO, IEC, OSHA)
• Technical software proficiency (AutoCAD, CMMS, data analysis tools)

• Indicative salary range: Starting from €38.000 gross annually ( increasing based on experience and qualifications)
• Determination criteria: Professional experience, specific technical competencies, project complexity, local market
• Remuneration components: Base salary, performance bonus, company benefits (insurance, pension fund, welfare)
