As we continue to develop Marine & Offshore activities, we are delighted to offer a unique opportunity to join our organisation as Machinery and Safety Plan Approval Engineer at the Plan Approval department. Position is located within our Piraeus office in Greece and you will be welcomed in a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
Mission:
As a Machinery and Safety Plan Approval Engineer at Bureau Veritas, you will have the exciting opportunity to join our Piraeus office and work with a team of experts responsible for reviewing and approving the design of various vessels, including Bulk Carriers, Oil Tankers, General Cargo, Yachts and other maritime vessels.
Functional Competencies:
- Review and approve ship drawings with a focus on machinery, safety, and environmental aspects, representing numerous flag states.
- Assess design drawings, particularly piping systems, propulsion installations, and compliance with MARPOL, SOLAS, Ballast Water Management regulations, and alternative fuel technologies.
- Provide technical support and guidance to clients on machinery design, installation, and safety systems.
- Evaluate risk assessments and safety studies for complex marine systems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues and improve plan approval processes.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and regulatory changes in the maritime sector.
Requirements:
- Degree in Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) or equivalent institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in ship machinery systems, preferably in a classification society or shipyard environment.
- In-depth knowledge of marine propulsion systems, auxiliary machinery, and safety equipment.
- Familiarity with international maritime regulations (SOLAS, MARPOL, etc.) and classification society rules.
- Advanced proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong time management skills and capacity to meet strict deadlines.
Additional skills that will be considered:
- Experience in Machinery / Safety assessment against IACS Class and IMO rules.
