As we continue to develop Marine & Offshore activities, we are delighted to offer a unique opportunity to join our organisation as Senior Marine Surveyor for our New Construction operations. Position is located within our Mumbai office in India and you will be welcomed in a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

Purpose of the Position:

The Senior New Construction (NC) Surveyor is responsible for overseeing new construction projects, material and component inspections (BVN), and other technical activities assigned by management. Acting as a subject matter expert in Classification and Statutory Certification, the role ensures that vessels under construction comply with applicable classification rules, international regulations, safety standards, and Bureau Veritas quality requirements throughout the shipbuilding lifecycle.

The position serves as a key technical resource to support shipyards, clients, and survey teams while ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality classification and certification services.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Leadership & Coordination

• Act as the deputy to the NC Manager, supporting the planning, scheduling, coordination, and execution of new construction activities.
• Manage project interfaces with shipyards, owners, designers, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and project progression.
• Conduct periodic project reviews and progress meetings with shipyards and clients.

Survey & Inspection Activities

• Lead new construction surveys and related technical inspections throughout all stages of vessel construction.
• Verify compliance with Bureau Veritas classification rules, statutory requirements, approved plans, and industry standards.
• Attend and oversee key milestones including fabrication, assembly, outfitting, commissioning, basin trials, sea trials, and vessel delivery.
• Perform material, equipment, and component inspections as required under BVN activities.

Technical Review & Compliance

• Review and assess project documentation submitted by shipyards, including:
• Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs)
• Fabrication and construction procedures
• Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
• Trial procedures and protocols
• Other relevant technical documentation
• Ensure survey records, project files, reports, and certification documentation are maintained accurately and updated in accordance with Bureau Veritas procedures and quality standards.
• Apply sound technical judgment within established Operational Authority Limits and escalate matters when appropriate in line with BV procedures.
• Interpret and implement classification society rules, statutory regulations, IACS requirements, and industry best practices.

Quality, Safety & Operational Excellence

• Assess survey requirements and ensure the availability of qualified personnel, resources, and suitable working conditions to perform surveys to the required quality standard.
• Ensure all activities comply with Bureau Veritas Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) requirements.
• Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE), survey tools, certification stamps, and digital systems in accordance with company procedures.
• Maintain proper control, usage, and safeguarding of company assets and technical resources.

Team Development & Knowledge Sharing

• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentoring to junior and less experienced surveyors.
• Support competency development initiatives and contribute to knowledge-sharing activities within the organization.
• Maintain awareness of updates to classification rules, technical instructions, procedures, and industry regulations.

Client Service & Business Representation

• Deliver professional, timely, and high-quality services that meet client and management expectations.
• Foster strong relationships with clients and shipyards, promoting customer satisfaction and long-term partnerships.
• Represent Bureau Veritas professionally and act as an ambassador of the organization's values, expertise, and service offerings.

Ethics & Compliance

• Uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and professional conduct in accordance with the Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics.
• Ensure impartiality and independence in all surveys, inspection, and certification activities.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in marine surveys, inspections, or new construction activities within a Classification Society, Shipyard or equivalent maritime organization.
• Proven experience in new construction supervision, vessel certification, and shipbuilding project management.
• Strong knowledge of:
• Classification Society Rules
• Statutory Conventions and Regulations
• Shipbuilding Standards and Practices
• IACS Unified Requirements (URs), Unified Interpretations (UIs), Procedural Requirements (PRs), and Recommendations
• Experience in conducting surveys during vessel construction, commissioning, sea trials, and delivery phases.
• Proficiency in survey tools, inspection equipment, and digital reporting systems.
• Sound understanding of quality management systems and document control processes.
