Job Responsibilities:

1. To facilitate risk and safety assessment workshops within BV Malaysia and SEA region
2.  To carry out formal safety assessment (FSA) studies (qualitative, semi-quantitative, quantitative) such as Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Consequence Modelling/ Fire Risk Assessment Studies (FERA), Building Risk Assessment (BRA), Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Analysis (EERA), ALARP Study, COMAH/HSE Case Studies, PHA/ Bow-tie Analysis, F&G Mapping Studies (2D &3D), Smoke and Gas Dispersion Analysis (SGDA), Flare Radiation/ Flame out and Process Vent Gas Dispersion Study, Dropped Object Studies, Ship Collision Risk Emergency Systems Survivability Analysis (ESSA), Emergency Systems Survivability Analysis (ESSA), Temporary Refuge Impairment Analysis (TRIA), Smoke and Gas Impairment Analysis (SGIA), 3D Thermal Plume study, SIMOPS and Matrix of Permitted Operations (MOPO), SCE identification & SCE Performance Standard
3. Facilitate risk workshops e.g. HAZID/ENVID, HAZOP, ALARP, LOPA, SIL classification & verification, Bow tie, PHSER etc.
4. Prepare/ review safety instrumented function (SIF) summary based on PHA/LOPA SIL study results
5. Prepare/ review formal safety assessments (FSA) reports as described above
6. To use and guide the team in modeling software such as Phast, Shell FRED, FLACS and Flaresim.
7. Supervise/prepare safety cases and / or safety reports, including Facility Description, Safety Management System Description, FSA Description, Hazard Registers, Bow tie Diagrams.
8. Review safety studies reports prepared by junior consultants and ensure that the reports are prepared to BV Standard
9. Perform fire protection and safety studies, analyses and design for conceptual, FEED, and detailed design projects
10. Lead and/or coordinate the activities and deliverables allocated to the projects in accordance with the project schedule
11. Prepare technical proposals for Risk and Safety assessment studies including the development of the CTR
12. Develop quality deliverables as required by the project requirements or specifications

Other Responsibilities:

1. Assist BV Business Development in preparing proposals, presentations, provide technical advice and assist in marketing of BV products and services
2. Represent Bureau Veritas on related exhibition / committees / work groups
3. Provide internal training to engineers to improve their knowledge and skills in safety studies.
4. Supporting and supervising task delegation to team
5. Attend to client’s comments or clarifications during execution of projects.
6. Develop good working relationships with clients.
7. Attend client meetings to deliver effective technical solutions to clients.
8. Perform scope screening at initiation of bidding activities

Job Requirements:

1. Possess a Degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognized university preferably Masters in Safety Engineering
2. Certified as a Functional Safety Engineer/Professional is added advantage
3. Chartered Engineer or professional accreditation preferred
4. Must have consultancy experience for at least 3 years in similar position within well-known consultancies
5. Should have minimum 8 - 10 years working experience in risk and safety studies for oil and gas industries, petrochemical industries both greenfield and brownfields projects (existing assets).
6. Experience working for major operators in the region will be highly valued
7. Experience (Risk & Safety) in renewable energy and sustainability projects e.g. CCUS, H2, wind, etc will be an advantage
8. Familiar with relevant international standards such as NFPA, AS, EI, API, etc. and Company Specification such as Norsok, Total, PTS, DEP and local regulations.
9. Experienced in QRA pipeline would be beneficial
10. Experienced in 3D software is highly valued

Critical Skills & Personal Attributes:

1. Proven experience in a Risk & Safety Engineering role demonstrated through previous work experiences
2. Proven ability to facilitate variety of Technical Safety Reviews
3. Experience in developing AI PSM roadmap and its methodologies
4. Experience in 3D modelling studies
5. Familiar with Petronas MPM guidelines
6. Strong ethics and integrity
7. Capable of leading a team of consultants in executing safety studies. Provide technical guidance and solutions to consultants in solving problems.
8. A “solutions mindset” and able to manage varying tasks with often changing and competing priorities
9. Possess commercial mindset
10. Demonstrated experience in supporting and coaching junior engineering professionals.
11. Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to convey information
12. Ability to work in a confident, self-directed manner prioritizing a high volume of work.
13. Strong collaboration skills: ability to facilitate different teams to ensure customer satisfaction.
14. Effective client interfacing
15. Excellent report writing
16. Competent report writing & data base development skills such as using MS Office software tools, Word, Excel, Access
17. Fluency (both written and oral) in English is essential
