Position Overview:
The Mechanical Expert will play a critical role in evaluating the mechanical integrity and operational readiness of essential power generation assets, including turbines, boilers, HRSGs, compressors, and auxiliary mechanical systems. The primary goal is to ensure that assets meet operational standards for safety, reliability, and performance during peak demand periods.
The Mechanical Expert will conduct thorough on-site inspections, provide insights into mechanical asset health, and support risk management efforts. This role requires collaboration with the Technical Manager, who will guide technical standards and project goals.
Certifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Training: Relevant certifications in asset management (ISO 55001), vibration analysis, and thermal imaging are advantageous.
Minimum Experience Required: Minimum of 8 years in power generation or heavy industrial mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Condition Assessment:
- Perform detailed inspections on turbines, boilers, HRSGs, compressors, pumps, and associated piping systems, checking for signs of wear, stress, misalignment, and potential failure points.
- Utilize diagnostic tools such as vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and pressure testing to evaluate mechanical health and detect underlying issues.
- Data Collection and Analysis:
- Gather and analyze maintenance history, technical diaries, fault logs, and relevant operational data for mechanical components, assessing historical and current performance.
- Review technical drawings, schematics, and past inspection reports to understand asset history, material specifications, and high-stress areas.
- Risk Identification and Maintenance Review:
- Identify risks specific to mechanical components, such as vibration-induced fatigue, thermal stress, and potential bottlenecks in cooling or fuel systems.
- Review preventive and predictive maintenance practices, providing recommendations for optimized mechanical reliability and longevity.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Compile detailed reports summarizing findings, mechanical risks, and recommendations for system improvements and repairs.
- Present findings to the Technical Manager and contribute to comprehensive team reports across all technical areas.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years in power generation or heavy industrial mechanical systems.
- Proven experience with mechanical asset inspections, vibration analysis, and preventive maintenance strategies.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in asset management (ISO 55001), vibration analysis, and thermal imaging are advantageous.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong expertise in mechanical diagnostics and condition monitoring.
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with the Technical Manager and multi-disciplinary teams.
Proficiency in diagnostic software and tools, with strong analytical and report-writing abilities.
