Bureau Veritas Solution South Africa (part of the Bureau Veritas Group of Companies) is recruiting a Laboratory Manager in the Hotazel area. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall management of the business line and its relevant operations.
• A Science/Chemistry related tertiary qualification is a definite advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years’ Management experience in the XRF Laboratories.
• In depth knowledge of XRF Instrumentation and Calibration procedures.
• ISO 17025 Internal auditing and systems course, highly preferred.
• Ability to lead and mentor a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Customer focused.
• Excellent planning and organization skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong focus on quality.
• Excellent analytical thought pattern and observation skills.
• Good understanding of Safety requirements on a Mine.
• Proficient use of MS Office programs.
Main Responsibilities:
Conduct effective site management:
• Supervise staff within the laboratory
• Giving staff relevant instructions to ensure efficient operations
• Ensure Work Instructions are followed
• Responsible for ensuring good housekeeping and cleanliness of work areas.
Ensure continuous improvement of the operations of the site
• Minimize wastages
• Reduce breakdowns and downtime
• Ensure quality of each reported result
Participate in planning and quality reviews
Conduct effective tracking and monitoring of site performance
• Track and monitor number of tests conducted ensuring turnaround times are met
• Track and monitor any ad-hoc tests requested by the customer
Effectively manage staff
Fulfil the responsibilities of a Technical Signatory:
• Accept responsibility for the contents (i.e. results and/or measurements) of the Certificate/Report which he/she is signing or authorising.
• Have sufficient current knowledge of the method used, as well as the objectives of the test.
• Be able to assess and interpret the data.
• Be confident when authorising results or measurements, that all the necessary checks had been completed as required by the management system to ensure the quality of the results.
