Introduction

Bureau Veritas South Africa Pty Ltd is recruiting a Certification Lead Southern Africa. The position is based in South Africa, reporting to the East & Southern Africa Certification Manager.

The Certification Lead is responsible for all the commercial, technical, financial, administrative and operational activities related to the Certification Business in Southern Africa of Bureau Veritas. The Incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day management of his staff and business. He/she performs in line with the Bureau Veritas Quality Assurance System, including the BV Code of Ethics and the BV Group policy.

  • They have direct responsibility for a team of 30+ employees based in Southern-Africa.
  • The Certification Lead is a key part of the Certification leadership team and of the regional growth strategy.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of management experience Certification with a Bachelor Degree of Commerce, Engineering or other related disciplines.

Job Specification

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop a business plan and a three- Year plan in terms of quality, targeted action and profitability in accordance with the general guidelines, the global and local objectives and local governmental policies.
  • Implement corporate standards in the area of responsibility (e.g. Code of Ethics, BV Values, corporate identity, policies, procedures).
  • Monitor and analyse the Certification Business Unit activities against the business plans, analyse the business equation and, if necessary, take corrective actions.
  • Consolidate Certification Business Unit specific figures and information to be forwarded to Senior Management.
  • Ensure a continuous contact and information exchange to internal and External interfaces (HR-Finance & Administration-lT).
  • Contribute to development of the Certification Business Unit strategy.
  • Plan, implement and control the cost budget in the area of responsibility in cooperation with his superior and manage activities in case of deviations.
  • Lead employees in the area of responsibility in agreement with superior (individual development, motivation, assessment and feedback).
  • Define operational targets for direct reports.
  • Initiate and take the lead to ensure reasonable staffing in the area of responsibility approved by superior and HR.
  • Build up top level relations to the largest accounts in the area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for the interaction with all the internal and external suppliers.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of local company policies.
  • Responsible for the coordination of projects conducted for local/global clients with the collaboration of other BV Business Lines.

 

Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Responsibilities

  • Taking accountability for the effectiveness of the QHSSE management system.

 

    • Taking overall responsibility and accountability for the prevention of work-related injury and ill health, as well as the provision of safe and healthy workplaces and activities.
    • Ensuring that the statements and objectives are established and are compatible with the strategic orientations and the context of the organization.
    • Ensuring the integration of the QHSSE management system requirements into the organization’s business processes.
    • Ensuring that the resources needed for the QHSSE management system are available.
    • Communicating the importance of effective QHSSE management and of conforming to the QHSSE management system requirements, using the “Managing Safely” booklet as a guidance on Safety.
    • Ensuring that the QHSSE management system achieves its intended outcome(s).
    • Directing and supporting persons to contribute to the effectiveness of the QHSSE Management System.
    • Promoting continual improvement using Scorecards
    • Supporting other relevant management roles to demonstrate their leadership as it applies to their areas of responsibility
    • Developing, leading and promoting the safety culture in the region and country by using global and local initiatives
    • Protecting employees from reprisals when reporting incidents, hazards, risks and opportunities.
    • Ensuring that arrangements done for effective consultation and participation of employees.
    • Supporting the establishment and functioning of QHSE committees.
    • Ensuring that customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
    • Making sure that the risks/impacts and opportunities that can affect conformity services and the ability to enhance customer satisfaction are determined and addressed.
    • Guaranteeing the focus on enhancing customer satisfaction is maintained.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Control price proposals.
  • Develop marketing actions – to grow all Certification services.
  • Analyse monthly results and initiate corrective actions.
  • Prepare yearly operational action plan in agreement with superior for his/her team.
  • Define and implement business plan, budget and resources, in line with Corporate/Zone and Region strategies.
  • Elaborate monthly reports to forward to superior (including market/competitors/customers/key events), Organize (prepare, execute, follow-up) regular operational meetings with his/her team.
  • Lead and coach employees (individual development, motivation, assessment, feedback).
  • Interview, select and recruit staff, perform employee performance assessment.
  • Fully adhere to, and comply with, the Bureau Veritas Core Values, Code of Ethics and 3 Absolutes.
  • Ensure BV Procedures related to technical Risk &Quality are implemented.
  • Adhere to and implement BV Policies and Procedures related to Safety.
