MECHANICAL ENGINEER POSITION- UGANDA

Primary Functions:

Responsible for carrying out certification and verification of mechanical engineering related activities as per agreed scheme and in accordance with specified requirements during installation and commissioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in drafting Verification & Certification Activity Reports (VCARS) specifically for mechanical related works, defining Scope of work & budget on the subject.
  • Perform site surveillance to certify and verify the mechanical engineering-related works, including the installation and testing of pipelines, pumps, compressors, valves, and storage tanks.
  • Verify installation of mechanical components compliance with engineering specifications, regulatory, safety and industry standards including BS EN, ISO.
  • Lead audit activities, including conducting opening and closing meetings with the Quality Control (QC) manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Document audit results, including compliance status, non-conformities, and corrective actions required.
  • Prepare and submit detailed inspection reports after each site visit.
  • Review mechanical installation plans, design specifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Check the qualifications and certifications of personnel involved in mechanical installations.

 

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 of those years involving work on similar international projects.
  • Proficiency in pipeline design principles, including API and ASME codes, with experience in pipeline system layouts and hydraulic calculations.
  • Knowledgeable in hydrotesting and pipeline integrity NDT assessing methods.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems like pumps, valves, and heating systems used in pipeline operations.
  • Skilled in witnessing material receipt and verification processes in fabrication yards or installation sites, ensuring materials and equipment meet specified quality standards.
  • Proficiency in conducting inspections, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Ability to review and analyse reports for compliance with approved procedural requirements, identifying areas of improvement and ensuring adherence to specifications.
  • Must be in good health, capable of handling the physical demands of on-site inspections and audits.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
