PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • This Mechanical Engineer role for Bureau Veritas (BV) Uganda ensures high-pressure hydraulic systems on workover rigs meet API/ISO standards. Key tasks include conducting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at vendor sites, leading onshore commissioning, troubleshooting, and verifying technical compliance to ensure safe, reliable rig operation

RESPONSIBILITES

  • FAT Inspection: Witness and approve Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at supplier premises for hydraulic power units (HPUs), winches, pipe handling systems, and blowout preventer (BOP) control systems.
  • Commissioning: Lead the pre-commissioning and commissioning of rig hydraulic systems, ensuring functionality, alignment, and performance meet design specifications and API standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all commissioning activities are executed according to project HSE plans and BV stringent safety standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Review vendor technical documentation, prepare FAT reports, and compile final commissioning dossiers.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve hydraulic system snags during testing.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree or above.

MAJOR

Mechanical Engineering or the related.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 10 years of experience of oil and gas specifically with workover or drilling rigs mandatory

KNOWLEDGE

  • Good knowledge of international codes, standards and regulation, such as ASME, API, etc
  • In-depth knowledge of workover rig components.
  • Knowledge of Blowout Preventer testing and certification
  • Understanding of welding inspection techniques and structural steel inspection
  • Knowledge of local and international safety regulations including OSHA and environmental regulations.

CAPABILITY

  • Familiar with QA&QC of mechanical for oil field site construction projects with similar working experience in international projects
  • Fully conversant with relevant inspection techniques and able to select the most appropriate technique.
  • Familiar with Quality Management System (ISO, etc.)
  • Proficiency in NDT Techniques for detecting fatigue and cracks
