Fire Science Technician

Location; London

We are growing our Fire Science team and are now looking to recruit a Technician to join our London based Laboratory team.

 

What the roles involves

 

Working within our Fire Science team, this role will be a key support the Laboratory Manager in administrative and regulatory tasks, primarily calibrating and maintaining the complex equipment used by Fire Services in the UK.

Responsibilities involve

  • Routine calibrations of equipment including gas detection monitors, electronic personal dosimeters, radiation survey meters, radiation contamination meters, multi-meters and volt-sticks.
  • Calibrations to be carried out either within the laboratory or at remote locations as determined best for operational efficiency.
  • Routine analysis of the quality of breathing air in air cylinders.
  • Maintenance of records for all tasks and preparation of standard calibration reports.
  • Maintenance of the department’s databases (both checking and inputting data) including the collation of data for KPI reporting and the production of reports as required by the Chief Scientific Adviser.
  • Maintaining the department QA system and assisting with Office administrative tasks.
  • Assistance with ignition and combustibility tests.
  • Assistance with the logging and management of Fire Investigation and Accident Investigation samples.
  • Decontamination of operational kit and equipment from Fire Service operations.
  • COSHH assessments and maintenance of chemical inventories.
  • Routine clerical duties.

 

Who we are looking for

 

We are looking for a determined candidate with a Scientific degree (preferably Chemistry, Applied Chemistry or Physics) and a good knowledge of chemistry and chemical hazards.

You will have the confidence and ability to communicate scientific concepts and information at all levels. We will need you to be self-motivated, adaptable and comfortable liaising with clients and promoting our services externally.

Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential.
