We are growing our Approved Body Machinery team in the UK and are looking to recruit a Principal Machinery Specialist to join our team of industry experts.

 

What the role involves

 

As a specialist you will provide subject matter expertise to the business and its clients in all areas relating to Machinery Conformity to the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations.  

You will carry out conformity assessments of machinery for fee paying clients both as an Approved Body for UKCA Certification for Part 4 Machinery and also as a 3rd party conformity assurance service for manufacturers self-certification of non-part 4 machinery (including Part 5 Safety components)

You will also review conformity assessments provided by group partners and decide upon recommendations for UKCA certification. In addition to developing, coaching and mentoring junior Machinery Specialists within the team.

 

Responsibilities will include

  • Ensuring independence and impartiality for all projects assigned to yourself and declare to the Technical Manager when any instances where a conflict of interest arises.
  • Perform Functional Safety Verification Assessments.
  • Review conformity assessments from the wider group’s Notified Bodies to determine the decision for UKCA Certification based upon inherited or shared conformity assessment.
  • Provide Training to fee paying clients on the requirements of The Supply of Machinery Safety Regulations 2008.
  • Coach, develop and train team members and field staff in technical issues, ensuring technical knowledge is maintained and developed through training both on and off the job in order to grow the capability of the Approved Body service.
  • Maintain a team competence matrix for Hazardous Group Machinery.
  • Provide the highest level of technical expertise within the Machinery Safety discipline, ensuring that the Bureau Veritas technical philosophy and strategies are understood and adhered to throughout the business unit
  • Provide services to fee paying and internal customers in the designated fields of expertise and maintain technical control of commercial contracts to ensure compliance with the accreditation requirements.
  • Keep up to date with developments in standards and legislation affecting the machinery discipline and support change as required.
  • Provide engineering technical input into external trade associations, technical committees, and statutory bodies.

 

Who we are looking for  

 

We are looking for someone with excellent understanding of how UKCA and CE apply to Machinery via the UK Regulation and EU Directives, and knowledgeable in the requirements for Approved Bodies certifying products, processes and services in accordance with BS EN ISO 17065.

You will need experience of the below

  • Machinery conformity against the Machinery Directive / The Supply of Machinery (Safety Regulations)
  • Testing and inspection of machinery as a part of the conformity assessment procedure
  • Functional Safety of Industrial Machinery (EN 13849-1 and EN 62061)
  • Safety of Machinery Design Risk Assessment in accordance with EN 12100
  • Reviewing and verifying the Essential Health and Safety Requirements of Machinery and reviewing Machinery Technical Construction Files
  • Full Quality Assurance assessments of a machinery manufacturer’s quality management system.

You will also need excellent communication skills and must be willing to travel domestically and on occasion, internationally.
