Role Purpose:

To act as the technical focus in the relevant discipline for the Business and Clients. To manage existing authorisations, approvals and notifications in relation to the BV accreditations. To act in a manner to protect the accreditations and certificates. To apply the relevant regulations, standards, guidance & best practice ensuring that the activities are carried out in accordance with ISO/IEC 17000 series or recognized industry certification as appropriate


Main Duties:

Responsible for:

  • The maintenance of accreditation for the lift and escalator discipline
  • Activities under the lift and escalator disciplines are carried out in accordance with ISO/IEC 17020
  • Complying to UK QHSSE policies and procedures
  • Being the Technical focal point for all personnel within their lift and escalator discipline
  • The recruitment of suitably qualified engineers into the lift and escalator discipline
  • For the ongoing competency of the engineer surveyors
  • Identifying adequate training requirements for new engineers into the business
  • Technical authorisation of the engineers in the lift and escalator
  • Approval and suspension of skill codes
  • Ensuring the completion of Competency Assessments (Report/Field audits) on time so that skill management maintains in control
  • Raising concessions to Chief Engineer when required
  • Ensuring that technical procedures for the lift and escalator discipline are current, up to date and reflect the current regulations, standards, and industry best practice
  • Action and close of non-conformances as required including trend Analysis of non-conforming work, implement appropriate training, re-training or remedial actions.
  • Job descriptions being up to date for any direct reports
  • The review of technical standards with appropriate actions are taken
  • Technical client queries are dealt with and responded to within a timely manner
  • Ensuring that the QHSSE are consulted of any potential conflicts of interest and risk to impartiality
  • Ensuring that guidelines and processes for recruitment are adhered to
  • Improvements to training modules to develop competency as required
  • Regular update to the field staff
  • Providing technical support to the Bid & Tender process
  • Representing Bureau Veritas at external Technical forums, technical presentations and Industry Body events e.g. SAFed
  • Identification of Technical equipment/Development CAPEX budgets for the of lift and escalator discipline
  • Coaching and mentoring of personnel
  • Establish and maintain a technical profile that is highly visible both internally and externally supporting the BV UK Brand




Provide support, as required, to the:

  • Internal and external legal counsel
  • Internal QHSSE audits
  • External audits; accreditation, certification, client, supplier
  • Customer complaints/feedback process, ensure feedback is sought for all activities within scope
  • Commercial and growth strategy
  • Fee earning services to customers as required
  • Innovation (technology) for improvement of inspection/testing activities and new services
  • Identifying software improvements to the reporting platform



  • Maintenance of accreditation
  • Ongoing competency of the engineer surveyors
  • Trend analysis of non-conformances and effectiveness check
  • Active participation and representation at SAFed
  • Proactive approach to improvements within their discipline 


Experience & Skills Required [E]=Essential, [D]=Desirable

  • Degree in relevant Engineering discipline [E]
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status plus 5+ years relevant experience in the lift and escalator discipline [E]
  • Chartered Engineer plus 5+ years relevant experience in the lift and escalator discipline [D]
  • A member of a related professional institution.
  • Experience of inspection, testing, design and audit activities [E]
  • Detailed knowledge of in-service inspection procedures and processes in an ISO 17020 environment [E]
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant Legislation, Regulations and Standards [E]
  • Technical Leadership, delivery focus, planning and organisation [E]
  • Experience of Global Conformity Assessment. [D]
  • Good communication skills and ability to write technical reports [E]
