Are you looking to build a career in laboratory operations with hands‑on training and long‑term development? We’re looking for a Hot Area Laboratory Technician to join our Metals & Minerals team in Witham.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong attention to detail and an interest in science or laboratory work. No previous furnace experience is required, as full training will be provided.
About the Role
Working as part of a team in our furnace area, you’ll be involved in preparing samples for laboratory analysis. This is a practical, hands‑on role that plays a vital part in ensuring accurate and high‑quality results.
All duties are carried out in line with Bureau Veritas Commodities procedures, including Health & Safety, Environmental, quality and accreditation standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately weighing samples and metals
- Mixing samples with litharge using extracted cupboards
- Loading samples into crucibles and melting them in furnaces
- Pouring small quantities of molten material into moulds
- Moving materials using a hand‑held pump truck
- Maintaining a clean, safe and well‑organised furnace area
What We’re Looking For
- Excellent attention to detail
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
- Flexible approach to working hours and tasks
- GCSEs in Maths or a Science subject (Grade C/4 or above)
- Willingness to learn – full furnace training will be provided
