Team Lead - Ecotoxicology

 

Responsible for overseeing routine analyzes, special projects, custom work, and leading the daily activities of the Ecotoxicology group . Provide general lab support in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety policies

 

As an Team Lead, your responsibilities are:

  • Perform both lab bench work on routine/special project as well as Team Lead duties at an approximate 30/70% time performing both functions
  • Investigate culture concerns and troubleshoot equipment and other lab issues
  • Organize external technician for routine and non-routine maintenance
  • Coordinate daily test work with Biologists and internal labs to meet required turnaround time
  • Performs statistics using CETIS and approve/validate data, troubleshoot software issues
  • Complete and/or review toxicity test reports
  • Coordinate and follow up on all subcontracted analyses and meet quality and turnaround time as required by the client
  • Coordinate more complex, non-routine experiments (including in house research) as well as improve/streamline SOPs/Work Instructions
  • Train new hires and/or delegate senior staff to do so; answer questions concerning analysis, and on proper techniques.
  • Review non-conformances and/ or communicate to supervisor/manager, conduct and/or delegate investigations and provide input to corrective actions
  • Expedite or delegate tasks associated with NSCs, CARs, MIAs, PDFs
  • Provide supervisor/manager/customer service/client with timely status updates on current testing or reporting
  • Work with supervisor/manager to perform critical task analysis, and to improve process
  • Participate in client discussions and project planning
  • Have a thorough knowledge of routine testing and the LIMS systems, aliquoting and distribution to the other departments

 

You are an ideal Team Lead if you have:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent post-secondary school education with at least 3 years ecotoxicology laboratory experience
  • Must have strong computer skills, including familiarity to Word-processing, Spreadsheet & Database programs.
  • Positive outlook with an ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Leadership skills to lead a team
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible to a changing environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Detail orientated & good record keeping skills
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to maintain and apply up-to-date knowledge of the practices, techniques and equipment common to the field of specialization.
  • Proven understanding of bioassay tests on offer
  • Superior customer service and project planning skills
  • Ability to train others
  • Ability to schedule client requests and organize workload
