Position Title: Prototyper – Light Industrial
Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Hands-on experimentation and basic science, i.e., Procedural work.
- Onboard to P&G systems and performs the basic and critical experimental work of day-to-day applied research.
- Responsible for the hand preparation of raw materials.
- Measuring and cutting a variety of materials using hand tools and cutting boards, frequently very precise dimensions.
- Hand assembly of prototype products and components.
- Sequential layering of precut materials and components onto a product pattern within very tight dimensional specifications and hand trimming the perimeter.
- Hand modification of plant produced and purchased products – involves delicate hand disassembly or alteration of pre-made products, and subsequent hand reassembly using new materials or components to very precise dimensional specifications. This can include removing, adding, or changing one or more components of the product.
- Operating individual pieces of equipment as needed based on the project. Must be in tune with careful placement of the products on the machine, initiating machine operation, careful inspection of the product, and monitoring equipment parameters such as pressure, stroke length, temperature, time, etc.
- Manual inspection, packaging, and labeling of prototype products -- involves careful inspection of products for defects; sorting, counting and collating various different products; hand packaging the products; and marking the packages with labels.
- Daily HUT cleaning and Biannual Cleaning will be performed including but not limited to wiping down machinery, tooling, and tables, trash, sweeping and mopping of floors, cleaning of sinks and windows inside the lab.
- Responsible for tidying lab and putting away materials, tooling, and devices used in the buildings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Familiarity with tenets of the microbiology and/or molecular biology skillsets
- Strong understanding of aseptic technique
- Highly attentive to detail and able to problem-solving quickly
- Open communication regarding status of samples, experiments, and instrumentation with sponsor
- Flexibility for changing priorities as lab capability grows or as work focus shifts.
- Willingness to work with other ATL colleagues or client employees in the lab – to lend a hand during down time and work well as part of a team.
- Familiarity with learning basic computer software (instrument-related), familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Office, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
Education and Experience:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in a Scientific degree field; Degree in Microbiology preferred
Physical and Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly.
- Frequent, repetitive hand use
- Standing for extended periods of time
- Frequent reaching and twisting with the body
