TITLE:
ACCESSIBILITY INSPECTOR/PLANS EXAMINER

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Sr. Facilitation Construction Manager or Sr. DCC Construction Manager, will assist in the enforcement and implementation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) and accessibility codes for compliance of building systems during construction and alterations. Performs construction document plan reviews and inspections for all newly constructed or modified facilities for code compliance of projects submitted by the Airport Board, Concessions, and Tenants for compliance with the International Code Council (ICC) family of model codes, DFW International Airport Design Criteria Manual, DFW International Airport Code Amendments for Construction, Federal and State Regulations, Construction Standards, ADA Regulations, TAS Regulations and FAA Regulations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Collaborates with Designers, Engineers, Project Managers, Stakeholders, QA Construction Inspectors and Contractors to ensure efficient and effective compliance of DFW International Airport construction projects with adopted ICC family of model codes, DFW International Airport Design Criteria Manual, TAS Regulations, ADA Regulations, FAA Regulations and DFW International Airport Code Amendments for Construction through construction document plan review and construction inspections.
· Performs construction document plan reviews to ensure compliance with the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS) to verifying that buildings and facilities are accessible to individuals with disabilities, following the guidelines set by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) within the state of Texas.
· Ensures Airport facilities comply with TAS Regulations, ADA Regulations, FAA Regulations and other mandated design standards.
· Performs on-site evaluations/inspections of completed construction projects to verify that accessibility features have been implemented correctly. Generates detailed reports outlining any accessibility deficiencies found during inspections, including recommendations for corrective action.
· Attends project related meetings to assist project managers and contractors with questions regarding ADA.
· Coordinates and collaborates with Registered Accessibility Coordinator (RAS) and tenants to complete TDLR inspections.
· Maintains a list of past and current permits to ensure no TDLR inspection is overlooked.
· Works with the FAA Airport Disability Compliance Program to ensure all items noted in the Disability Compliance Review report are addressed and corrected.
· Answers accessibility questions for contractors, tenants, and project managers, and when necessary, conducts field visits to address questions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Bachelor’s degree in architecture.
· Three (3) years’ experience in accessibility inspections, ADA inspections and construction document plan examination. Possesses and maintains an active status Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Registered Accessibility Specialist License; International Code Council (ICC) Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner Certification.
· Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
· Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of the ICC family of model codes; ADA Regulations; FAA ADA Regulations; Local, State, National Codes and Regulations relating to major construction development, accessibility systems, and building systems.
· Ability to detect and correct non-complying items during construction document plan review and through inspection of the in-progress or finished work.
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to maintain harmonious internal and external working relationships.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
· Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) 3 days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
· This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
DESIRABLE:
· Experience using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Share Point) and municipal building department permitting software systems.
· Experience using Apple iPad.
· Experience using Apple iPad mobile municipal building department inspection applications.
· Experience using Blue Beam and Adobe Acrobat applications.
· Experience using Microsoft Teams application and Outlook email application.
EFFORTS:
· Works in an office, mechanical rooms, confined spaces, terminal buildings, outside environment, and at construction sites.
· Sits for prolonged periods of time.
· Uses keyboard devices and a computer monitor.
· Uses near-visual acuity in reading written documents, technical documents, and design drawings.
· Perform mathematical calculations.
· Uses substantial reasoning in problem solving and code interpretation.
· Exchanges information by telephone, computer, in writing and in person.
· Drives to locations on and off Airport property.
· Climbs ladders and works in physically awkward situations, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and walking on uneven terrain.
· Walks and stands for extended periods.
· Uses permitting and inspection tools, flashlights, and test equipment.
· Complies with the United States Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) current rules and regulations.
· Wears OSHA approved clothing for construction workers and OSHA approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for construction workers.
· Wears DFW International Airport issued uniform clothing.
