Risk Assessment Engineer

Bureau Veritas North America (BVNA) Engineering Lead

Location: Houston, TX

The Risk Assessment Engineer will be responsible for verifying and certifying our customers’ projects in the areas of risk assessment and reliability / integrity / availability management. The engineer will work directly with customers and collaborate with the larger BV Engineering network on global projects.


  • Collect design and analysis data from customers and assemble it into assumptions and inputs into analysis models.
  • Research statistical databases for typical risk and performance data for input into analysis models.
  • Perform analysis (using software programs as necessary) on the appropriate models.
  • Clearly communicate the analysis results through both in-person presentation and written reports.
  • Be familiar with FMECA, HAZID / HAZOP, QRA, SIL, RBI, and other risk-, safety-, and reliability-related analysis models.
  • Expand BV’s current capability to deliver new methods of minimizing and mitigating our customers’ risks.


  • Bachelors in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or related)
  • 5+ years of experience in risk & reliability work, including failure modes, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA), hazard identification / hazard operability studies (HAZID / HAZOP), quantitative risk analysis (QRA), safety integrity level (SIL) assessment, risk-based inspections (RBI), and similar
  • Analytical ability to modify standard analysis patterns in order to develop new business lines and capabilities
  • Strong communication skills to deliver analysis results to people with varying technical backgrounds and make appropriate recommendations as needed
  • Project management capability to direct and participate in projects with several consultants and deliverables
  • Ability to travel within the US and abroad (about 10%)


  • Reports to the Director of Engineering
  • Works with the sales leads on generating leads and technical proposals
