JOB TITLE: Laboratory Supervisor
REPORTS TO: Laboratory Manager
SUMMARY: Assists Laboratory Manager/Assistant Manager in the day-to-day responsibilitie of laboratory analyses and related tasks at a local division office while representing the policies, ethics, and culture of the company in a leadership role. The supervisor closely monitors lab-related key performance indicators related to turnaround time and accuracy of date to meet budgeted requirements. This includes supervision and coordination of personnel engaged in performing chemical and physical tests required by our customers. This person in this position will have the capabilities and authority to perform and/or offer training to laboratory staff on standard test methods, as well as any calibration, verification, and maintenance procedures for all laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be designated.
- Demonstrate and require ethics at all times.
- Ensures all laboratory staff have adequate resources to perform all aspects of work required.
- Ensure all laboratory staff are adequately trained to safely perform all required job functions and that competency records are maintained.
- Ensure compliance with all corporate policy procedures in the laboratory.
- Assist Laboratory Manager regarding sales, profits, costs and expenses to meet/ exceed budgeted financial expectations for the laboratory.
- Provide employee motivation via employee development and team building.
- Maintain an “open door policy” and communicates with lab staff and management to promote empowerment and accountability.
- Obtain and maintain an in-depth knowledge of local market requirements.
- Support investigation and correction for corrective/preventive actions.
- Recommend measures to improve testing procedures, use of equipment, and needs for new equipment. Conduct research to develop custom procedures as needed, working in conjunction with senior lab management.
- Ensure compliance in all areas.
- May be required to perform the duties of the Laboratory Supervisor and/or Laboratory
- Technicians including testing.
- Establish or adjust work schedules to meet testing requirements and control costs.
- Maintain time, training, calibration, QC and testing records.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Lead laboratory staff in completion of required tasks. Supervisory responsibilities may includeinvolvement with interviewing applicants, training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, providing feedback to Laboratory Manager regarding performance and problem resolution.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university or Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or a minimum of three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphical data.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Excellent communication skills
Computer literate (MS Office), equipment related software, email etc.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid driver’s license required.
