Laboratory Technician/ Sample Logistics Trainee – Food Sample Logistics Dept. (6-month Contract)

 

As a Laboratory Technician/ Sample Logistics Trainee, your responsibilities are:

 

  • Adheres to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy.
  • Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System, and Health & Safety programs.
  • Performs sample preparation and procedures related to the microbial analyses of food samples and provides general lab support.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) when conducting any laboratory work or procedure.
  • Ensures a high level of accuracy in sample preparation and analysis.
  • Employs proper laboratory techniques to minimize the risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross-contamination between samples and other materials.
  • Unpack food samples (e.g. breads, meats, cheeses) from coolers and organize them according to requirements
  • Confirm that the samples received match the documentation
  • Identify and report all concerns with submissions, such as missing samples and the condition of samples.
  • Escalate issues to senior staff as needed
  • Create, organize, and manage paperwork
  • Input all information into a computerized system (data entry)
  • Sort and distribute all samples appropriately which will be sent to other departments for testing
  • Work closely with other team members and supervisory staff to report and resolve issues
  • Strict adherence to policies, procedures, work instructions, other documents, and requirements
  • Create and maintain a clean, sanitary, neat/tidy, safe/secure working environment
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance
  • Maintains training records and relevant qualifications.
  • Meets quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensures samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
  • Keeps work area clean, neat, and organized according to good housekeeping procedures.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

 

You are an ideal Laboratory Technician/ Sample Logistics Trainee, if you have [Minimum Requirements]:

 

 

  • Possess a post-secondary education and/or equivalent related work experience in an analytical laboratory
  • Must be able to distinguish between different colour reactions.
  • Must be able to handle all kinds of food samples including (but not limited to) peanuts/nuts, raw meat, seafood, beer/wine, soy, dairy, and wheat.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Dynamic, energetic, motivated with a positive outlook and “can-do” attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good record-keeping skills and attention to detail.
  • Organized with a professional attitude.
  • Some lifting required (up to 40 lbs).
  • Detail orientated and record-keeping skills.
  • Learns quickly.
  • Adapts to a changing environment.

 

 

Scheduled shift: This role requires full-time hours, and full flexibility in scheduling including evenings, weekends and holidays. Overtime is common.
