Senior Scientific Specialist - Food Testing

As a Sr. Scientific Specialist, your main responsibilities are:

 

Sr. Scientific Specialist in food testing is to resolve highly technical or diverse problems in food testing lab with highly technical solutions through application of a diverse skillset.  Sr. Scientific Specialist requires interaction with all food teams including laboratory operations, customer service, sample pre-processing, sample logistics, and sometimes food microbiology. Should act as a resource to BV’s Operations, Sales and Customer Service departments by providing high level technical support to further business development and customer retention. Examples include: development of burgeoning technologies, integration of new clients, problem resolution, process development, and new location start-up.

 

  • Reviews food and nutritional analysis methods and recommends the ones that are most applicable for clients’ expanding range of matrices.
  • Provides complex technical support, guidance, and leadership to the food chemistry, food biochemistry, and food physical testing operational staff, as well as sales and customers service.
  • Remains current with regulatory changes affecting food and nutrition analysis business, and ensures analytical methods are fit to meet these requirements.
  • Validates/verifies new analytical methods and modifies existing ones for expanding range of food matrices to support the needs of food business.
  • Oversees staff analytical technique and carry out training on new methods implemented.
  • Provides solutions for extraction and instrumentation procedures.
  • Reviews and approves standard operating procedures (SOP) for new and modified analytical methods.
  • Provides senior level data review to ensure the accuracy and quality in all analytical data in relation to customer’s matrices and process.
  • Acts as a back-up to validate analytical data at the job level (Tier II data validation), method and calculation test-codes set-up, product specification criteria set-up for out of specification (OOS) notification, and generation of nutritional labels.
  • Supports sales, customer service, and all food operations departments through the coordination of highly technical projects or business-at-risk situations.
  • Adheres to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy.
  • Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
  • Participates, when requested in lab and health and safety meetings.
  • Participates, when requested in internal and external audits.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

 

You are the ideal Sr. Scientific Specialist, if you have: 

 

  • Post-secondary or post graduate education from a recognized technical or science institution or a minimum of 10 years combined education and working experience with food.
  • Experience with sample extraction, instrumentation, method development, and sample handling.
  • Keen analytical problem solving, attention to details, and excellent documentation skills.
  • Ability to work on complex technical problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods and techniques for providing solutions.
  • Ability to work and make decision independently and as a team.
  • Strong organization and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, LIMS, and Quality Management System software (statistical analysis and macro functions in MS Excel would be considered an asset).
