Team Leader, PFAS Extraction Lab

(1- year contract)

 

 

To manage the day-to-day activities in the LCMSMS, PFAS extraction lab, including assigning, scheduling and prioritizing workloads to ensure client turnaround times are met in a timely fashion, and the data produced is of high quality and defensible. In addition, the position also involves being a resource to management and staff in order to work towards continuous improvement in laboratory methods and customer service.

 

  • Coordinates and assists in building a strong team of analytical professionals.
  • Generates/reviews LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily/weekly PFAS Analyses work in the Extraction Lab.
  • Monitors resources required by team and acts/reports concerns to management to prevent shortfalls.
  • Validates/Status Checks results for data integrity and compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Ensures that quality control criteria are met and generated data is defensible.
  • Uses time management skills and discuss plans with manager to ensure resources are utilised efficiently and deadlines are met.
  • Communicates any issues affecting turnaround time, quality, etc. with Supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Provides technical expertise to staff through training, coaching and mentoring. Cross train Lab Techs and Analysts as required.
  • Ensures all relevant documentation related to sample handling/processing being generating by the extraction lab is clear and concise.
  • Operates and assists with set- up, calibration, and maintenance of equipment, electronics, and software.
  • Performs more complex sample preparations and analyses.
  • Develops, modifies and updates Standard Operating Procedures and related documents and risk assessments.
  • Maintains a “continuous improvement” mindset, actively evaluating processes for potential improvements in efficiency, quality, etc.  Stays abreast of trends in laboratory sample preparation, including new technologies and automation. Communicates these opportunities to Management.  
  • Assists with the development and validation of new methodologies, either hands-on or through the coordination of resources from your team. Leads the training of new methodologies, under the guidance of a Scientific Specialist, to ensure seamless transition and implementation into operations.
  • Analyzes samples and reports or assists with reporting proficiency-testing samples.
  • Identify and clearly define problems. Assesses and interprets all available data to draw valid conclusions and resolve discrepancies (technical, procedural, quality, safety & human). Communicates unresolved issues to Management in a timely manner. Participates in non-conformance (NSC/CAR) investigations, investigation report writing and the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Actively participates in all phases of audits and associated follow-ups.
  • Attends, prepares and leads departmental meetings as delegated.
  • Applies knowledge of regulations and safe work practices to ensure continuous strong safety records.
  • Assists with assessing feasibility of Kaizen projects as needed.
  • Provides input to management on staff performances.
  • Provides feedback during budgeting process as required.
  • May assist with Business Development activities.
  • Acts as a positive change agent in supporting BV initiatives (operational and cultural).
  • Oversees routine housekeeping and record keeping.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned.

 

You are the ideal Team Leader, if you have:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Analytical Chemistry with over five years’ experience in Environmental Analytical Testing and/or related fields.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles.
  • Good team building, training, and coaching skills.
  • Experience working in a production laboratory environment at a team lead level would be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with complex organic chemistry extraction techniques.
  • Positive, energetic personality that can work independently and coordinate a team in a multi-task fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks.
  • Flexibility to deal with different situations and personalities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
  • Experience working in an ISO 17025 certified laboratory.
  • Proficient with MS Office; LIMS experience desirable.

 

Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:30 p.m.
