SCIENTIFIC SPECIALIST – ECOTOXICOLOGY

The main tasks of a SCIENTIFIC SPECIALIST consist of:

The scientific specialist provides technical leadership in environmental ecotoxicology in order to achieve the operational objectives of the Department. They acts as a resource to operational laboratory staff, Sales and Customer Service with the goal of improving laboratory efficiency and customer satisfaction. They ensure the staff are knowledgeable and competent. They report to the director.

  • Identify and solve complex analytical problems.
  • Suggest and implement new efficient processes and procedures.
  • Uses Bureau Veritas “best practices”.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from clients (CAR, NCR).
  • Ensure the on-time production of defendable, high-quality data.
  • Act as a technical expert with employees at all levels.
  • Participate in the training of a strong team of analytical specialists.

Linked to scientific support

  • Recommend and train operational staff following standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure accuracy and quality of work.
  • Diagnoses anomalies relating to instruments and methods.
  • Ensures that their knowledge (equipment, methods, among others) is up to date by consulting .current documentation, organizing seminars and presentations and attending.
  • Provides advice on equipment acquisitions to meet operational objectives.
  • Maintains a positive, safe and clean work environment for staff.
  • Participate in the development of strategic plans to prepare the laboratory for sustained growth.
  • Establishes cordial relationships with supervisors and managers, as well as with colleagues in other workplaces.

Related to technological change and process improvement

  • Develops more effective SOPs and policy directions.
  • Proposes and implements efficient production methods.
  • Acts as an agent of positive change by supporting new initiatives.
  • Promotes automation at the instrument level.

 

Related to data quality

  • Finds non-compliance with SOPs and communicates them to the COO.
  • Resolves non-conforming aspects of the verification of quality assurance methods.
  • Examines and interprets the data, draws attention to errors and requests rework.
  • Recommends and drafts revisions of SOPs.
  • Imposes compliance with QA and QC policies and MDDEP accreditation standards.

 

Related to customer satisfaction

  • Keeps regulatory guidelines up to date.
  • Handles and resolves complaints of a technical nature from clients (analytical methods, guidelines, verification of client methods).

 

You are the ideal SCIENTIFIC SPECIALIST if:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology and a minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory.
  • Excellent knowledge of laboratory processes and automation.
  • Ability to think outside the box and searches for new ways of doing things
