JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Analytical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Analytical team and for coordinating the processing of customer samples in accordance with established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices.

Work conditions and physical requirements include: light to medium work (must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs for 25 feet) involving chemical hazards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit for long periods of time; while having to weigh, reach with hands and arms, type, use hands finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls; talk, hear, and smell. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, or crawl. The employee must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to work in hot conditions 90+ degrees.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, High Grade Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Lab Supervisor position.

- Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).

-Writing up of jobs of samples (preliminary’s, finals, and retrials) for the lab (LIMS AND SORBY)

- Carry out analytical procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.

- Ensure proper functioning of Analytical operations by:

o Monitoring work flow and coordinating on the basis of sample age and priority status – Ensuring work in lab is getting completed. Ensuring new samples are being entered into the lab at efficient rate.

o Monitoring staff and coordinating staff to meet sample volumes

o Training and orienting new staff on Analytical procedures

o Monitoring the performance of instrumentation including, but not limited to: ICP-OES, Balances (including Microbalances) (Troubleshooting if problems arise with any equipment)

o Calibrating, operating and analyzing samples by various analytical techniques

o Monitoring weighing and digestion equipment to ensure operation within defined parameters

o Weighing and digesting samples for various techniques such as but not limited to gravimetric, precipitations, aqua regia, salt fusions, and other one-off methods

o Cover for any tech position in lab to ensure necessary samples are weighed/finished for the day

o Ensuring adequate inventory of consumable supplies (standards, tubing, glassware, etc.) (Ensure accurate inventory and ordering is being done)

o Preparing reagents and standards for instrument calibration/analysis and maintaining records thereof (Including new standards, method creations, etc)

o Able to cover Fire Assay if needed

o Practicing good housekeeping.

-Importing of runs when needed

- Communicate general laboratory issues to the Laboratory Manager as appropriate.

- Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Laboratory Manager.

- Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the department to the Laboratory Manager.

- Report any nonconforming work, customer samples or test data to the Laboratory Manager. - Perform other duties as assigned by management.
