JOB SUMMARY: Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Sample Preparation Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the Sample Preparation team and coordinating the processing of customer samples by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices. Work conditions include: dusty work environment involving medium to heavy lifting (must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs for 10 feet) and repetitive tasks.

HOURS: Sunday - Thursday  8:00 AM - 4:30 PM 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Sample Preparation Supervisor position.

- Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Carry out sample receiving, login and preparation procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.

- Ensure proper functioning of Sample Preparation operations by:

     o Monitoring work flow and coordinating on basis of sample age and priority status

     o Monitoring staffing levels and coordinating staff to meet sample volumes

     o Training and orienting new staff to the Sample Preparation (including Receiving) procedures

     o Overseeing staff and ensuring that Sample Preparation (including Receiving) procedures and other work instructions are followed

     o Monitoring the performance of equipment such as: dryers, ovens, crushers, pulverizers, balances etc.

     o Maintaining an adequate inventory of consumable supplies

     o Monitoring the quality of consumables such as: clean rock, silica sand, pulverizer bowls, etc.

     o Practicing good housekeeping.

- Communicate general laboratory issues to the Laboratory Manager as appropriate. 

- Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Laboratory Manager.

- Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the department to the Laboratory Manager. 

- Report any non-conforming work, customer samples or test data to the Laboratory Manager.

- Submit to testing for silica exposure as required.

- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
