Position: Geochem Laboratory Technician

Position Type: Full-time permanent 

Work hours: 7.5 hours per day; 37.5 hours per week and overtime if needed

Shift schedule: Afternoon shift with pay premium (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm) and Graveyard shift with pay premium (11:00 pm to 7:00 am)

Requirements of the role: Must be available on the weekends - shifts may vary


Bureau Veritas is looking for a Geochem Laboratory Technician.


Reporting to the Geochemistry Manager and under the supervision of the Assistant Manager and/or Shift Supervisor, the Geochem Laboratory Technician will perform duties related to processing and analysis of client samples in the Geochemistry department. This individual will mainly focus on digestion of geological samples.


As a Geochem Laboratory Technician, your responsibilities are:


  • Digest and volume geological samples according to written procedure 
  • Process incoming geological samples
  • Ensure proper documentation of reagents  
  • Perform and document quality checks at all stages of sample and material handling, halting production where necessary by Hold card and reporting problems/issues to the Supervisor
  • Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Mineralogical  Technician position  
  • Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE) 
  • Other duties or tasks as assigned from time to time  


You are an ideal Geochem Laboratory Technician if you have:


  • Minimum BSc or technical diploma in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a laboratory environment would be an asset 
  • Familiarity with WHMIS would be an asset
  • Strong English communications – verbal and written communications  
  • Effective organization and time management skills 
  • Solid attention to detail and ability to problem solve and troubleshoot as needed 
  • Able to work independently and as a part of a team 
  • Must be able to handle frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to stand for the whole duration of the shift
  • Must be able to work overtime shifts if needed
