Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Lead Hand is responsible for the repairs and preventive maintenance of BVCC buildings and equipment.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Ensure that equipment that requires external calibrations are monitored to have the calibration carried out by qualified calibration services to comply with requirements of ISO 17025.
  2. Comply with all occupational safety regulations, laboratory safety procedures and as required, requirements of ISO Quality System SOPs.
  3. Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  4. After consult manufacturer's manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints, assist in the maintenance, inspection and test operation of all monitoring instruments used throughout the facility, such as pH meters, conductivity sensors, water flow meters, face velocity monitors, differential pressure monitors, thermocouples, etc.
  5. Assist in the monitoring, documentation and record keeping of equipment and calibrations.
  6. Perform the daily monitoring and control of deionized water system, facility compressed gas systems, acid neutralization system and exhaust system bearing temperature measurements recording and documenting according to the company procedures.
  7. Carry out general maintenance of building and grounds as required.
  8. Responsible for update the CMMS with proper data according to company SOPs.
  9. Assist in building modifications and renovations, including working with drywall, framing, painting, welding, plumbing, etc.
  10. Responsible for maintaining and replacing sheaves, bushings, belts, pillow blocks, and bearings on make-up air units and exhaust fans, including repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
  11. Responsible for the maintenance of building environmental systems, including wash down air scrubbing systems, exhaust fans, make up air units, dust collection systems, etc, including repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
  12. Responsible for the maintenance of equipment used throughout the facility, such as rock crushing and pulverizing machines, gas and electric furnaces, hot plates, digestion blocks, fume hoods, etc, including repair and adjust system components, such as sensors, transmitters and programmable logic controllers, or remove and replace defective parts.
  13. Responsible for the sourcing, ordering, and inventory control of equipment maintenance items, ie. belts, bushings, bearings, sheaves, thermocouples, etc.
  14. Responsible for maintaining pneumatic and hydraulic systems as well as belt and chain driven equipment throughout the facility.
  15. Specify requirement and parts from equipment within the Division and source the market for equivalent replacement parts.
  16. Responsible for repair, maintenance and rebuild of crushing machines for the Division.
  17. Responsible for adjusting and controlling the BMS system to provide proper ventilation and temperature control for the facility.
  18. Ensure the CMMS is kept up to date and properly updated throughout the Division.
  19. Other duties or task as required or assigned by Manager and/or Supervisor.

 

Experience, Qualifications and Requirements:

 

  1. Minimum 4+ years' experience as Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (Red Seal Required)
  2. Able to handle heavy loads up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, and up to 75 lbs on occasion.
  3. Able to work at heights above 30 feet from boom lift systems with required Fall Protection.
  4. Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  5. Strong organizing and time management skills.
  6. High trades aptitude required; intention to enroll on ITAs Trades Apprentice Programs is an Asset.
  7. Fall protection certificate an asset. Will be provided.
  8. Boom lift operation certificate an asset. Will be provided.
  9. Forklift operation certificate an asset. Will be provided.
  10. Experience dealing daily with CMMS an asset.
  11. Experience in operating hand operated tools & equipment, being able to perform measurements accurate to 0.01mm for shaft and bearing alignments of equipment.
  12. Ideally with 2+ years’ experience with mechanical and/or building repairs.
  13. Instrumentation trade experience an asset.
  14. HVAC trade experience an asset.
  15. Plumbing trade experience an asset.
  16. Electrical trade experience an asset.
  17. Mechanical trade experience an asset
