Job Title: Wet Assay – Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Laboratory Manager

Department: Wet Assay

Location: Vancouver. B.C.

Full-Time

 

Basic Purpose:

 

Reporting to the Wet Assay Manager, the Wet Assay – Laboratory Technician performs routine and non-routine duties in the Wet Assay Lab including clerical or physical functions and analysis of samples by established analytical techniques.

 

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

 

Accurately conduct routine and non-routine analyses of samples using the appropriate method or instrument and in accordance with the established schedule

Provide technical support to the senior technician for any duties and tasks that are assigned from time to time

Meet quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements

Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions

Prepare chemical reagents and calibration standards for the use in the laboratory

Handling all chemicals in accordance to Safety Data Sheet (SDS)

Perform daily, weekly or monthly chemical inventory count and other cleanup duties as required

Operate and perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of all instruments such as Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), auto-titrator, pH and conductivity meter, UV-vis Spectrometer, Pycnometer.

Assist in setting up and conducting chemical experiments, tests and analyses

Compile records for analytical studies, maintain a high quality of results to clients.

Comply with occupational health and safety legislation, BV Group Policies and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the position

Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Maintain training records and relevant qualifications

Participate in a weekly department meeting

Participate when requested in internal and external audits

Keep the work area clean, neat and organized at all times

Perform other duties as assigned by management

 

Skills and Knowledge:

BSc. in Chemistry, Technical Diploma or equivalent experience

 

Working Conditions:

• High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment

• Can involve the repetition of the same process

• Requires patience, tenacity and persistence

• Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work

• May involve long periods of standing

• Some lifting and carrying (up to 10kg)

• Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment

The salary range for this role is  $19-$20.51
