  • Experience in specific client requirements of ADNOC, Shell, TOTAL etc. would be appreciated)
  • Previous work experience with companies Technip, Worley, Wood, Petrofac or any other international EPC Contractor is must

  • Overall experience: 10 to 15 years with reputed international  EPC Contractors like Technip, Worley, Wood, Petrofac etc. (Operation experience is not accepted)
  • Electrical Engineers with experience in Design, Detailed engineering, and EPC of Oil & Gas or petrochemical Projects. The engineers should have a minimum of 8 years of core design experience in the discipline with any EPC or FEED Contractors while working in the Oil & gas and allied industries. The selected Engineer would be part of the Bureau Veritas Design Review team based at their Technical Center located in Abu Dhabi.

 

  1. Responsibilities / Authorities / Accountabilities
    1. Primary Functions
    • Independently review and verify Electrical Design Basis and design philosophies for oil & gas projects in line with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
    • Perform design reviews of electrical power generation and distribution systems (HV, MV, LV), including substations and system architecture.
    • Review UPS systems supplying DCS, ESD, F&G, telecom, and other safety-critical loads, verifying sizing philosophy, autonomy, redundancy, and segregation.
    • Conduct independent reviews of electrical Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) for compliance, consistency, and system reliability.
    • Review motor specifications, starting philosophy, protection schemes, and interfaces with mechanical and process systems.
    • Verify earthing, bonding, and lightning protection system designs to ensure personnel safety, static discharge control, and hazardous area compliance.
    • Review electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, and bulk material specifications without assuming design ownership.
    • Assess electrical layouts, equipment rooms, substations, transit layouts, and cable routing concepts from safety, operability, and maintainability perspectives.
    • Perform compliance checks against international standards (IEC, IEEE, API, NFPA, NEC, BS EN) and project-specific/client standards.
    • Identify design gaps, deviations, and non-compliances, and raise formal review comments and technical observations.
    • Carry out inter-disciplinary design checks (IDC) to verify electrical interfaces with instrumentation, mechanical, civil, and process disciplines.
    • Review vendor documents and participate in technical bid evaluations (TBE) and vendor document reviews from an independent verification standpoint.
    • Participate in FATs, Electrical-HAZOP, and design review workshops as an independent electrical discipline reviewer.
    • Support client meetings, design review discussions, and technical clarification sessions while maintaining third-party impartiality.
    • Prepare and contribute to design review reports, comment registers, close-out notes, and verification deliverables in support of certification activities.
    • Verification of the Safety Critical Elements (UPS, Earth-bonding, ATEX equipment, navigational lights, Emergency Lighting etc.) at sites (Vendor, Offshore sites during Construction and Commission etc.)

    1. Technical Expertise

The engineer should have the  following experience from the EPC Contactor

  • Preparation of Electrical Design Basis, Electrical Design Criteria, and project-specific electrical philosophies.
  • Preparation of electrical equipment specifications and data sheets for DGs, transformers, switchgears, UPS, batteries, motors, cables, and DBs.
  • Experience with electrical power generation and distribution systems, including HV, MV, and LV networks and substations.
  • Electrical load list preparation, load calculations, and development of electrical system architecture.
  • Sizing calculations for generators, transformers, UPS systems, batteries, cables, earthing, and lightning protection systems.
  • Development and checking of Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) and typical electrical schematics.
  • Preparation and review of bulk electrical material specifications and material take-offs.
  • Experience in electrical equipment layouts, substation layouts, electrical room layouts, and cable routing layouts.
  • Exposure to electrical system studies such as short-circuit, load flow, motor starting, and protection coordination (preparation or review).
  • Experience in earthing and bonding system design, including lightning protection systems.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area electrical design, including Ex equipment selection and installation practices.
  • Preparation and review of vendor technical queries (TQs) and responses during engineering and procurement phases.
  • Participation in technical bid evaluations (TBE) and review of vendor documents for electrical packages.
  • Inter-disciplinary coordination with instrumentation, mechanical, civil, and process disciplines during engineering execution.
  • Participation in FATs, HAZID, HAZOP, and design review meetings as part of EPC project execution.
  • Support to construction and commissioning teams through design clarifications and site technical support.
  • Exposure to onshore and offshore site activities during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Familiarity with international electrical codes and standards (IEC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, BS EN) and client specifications

  • Execute assigned design review and verification activities in compliance with company quality, impartiality, and independence requirements; check specification requirements are implemented in the design.
  • Deliver verification activities within agreed scope, schedule, and budget, in line with project and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain professional and ethical conduct while interacting with clients, EPC contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Support timely preparation, review, and issuance of design review reports, comment registers, and close-out documentation.
  • Adhere to company HSE, QA/QC, and document control procedures during office-based and site-based activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of verification methodologies, tools, and technical guidelines within the Technical Centre.
  • Perform site visits, including offshore and onshore locations, for the purpose of independent verification and assessment, as required by the project scope.
