About the Role
As an Analyst 1, you will produce high-quality, defensible analytical data safely and on time by following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will perform analyses and complex sample preparation while developing strong technical knowledge of laboratory procedures and quality control techniques.
This is a fast-paced laboratory role suited for someone who is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Review LIMS summary reports to plan and organize daily work
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) when performing analyses
- Perform sample preparation and basic testing procedures
- Identify non-routine samples and seek guidance when required
- Prepare standards and reagents; monitor inventory levels
- Ensure accuracy in sample preparation and analysis
- Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment (PC/Mac systems, pipettes, GC/LC instruments, automated sequencers, liquid handling systems, etc.)
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in accordance with SOPs and ISO 17025 requirements
- Meet quality and turnaround time (TAT) requirements
- Identify and document sample deviations, non-conformances, and process deviations
- Apply proper laboratory techniques to prevent mislabeling, sample mix-ups, and cross-contamination
- Initiate corrective actions and report issues to the Supervisor
- Provide updates on workstation status, including advance notification of delays
- Participate in method development, validation, and process improvements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
- Comply with Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System, and Health & Safety programs
- Participate in lab and Health & Safety meetings
- Assist during internal and external audits
- Maintain accurate training records and relevant qualifications
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills
- Post-secondary education (B.Sc. preferred) or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated success in a laboratory Analyst role
- Strong understanding of sample handling procedures and quality assurance protocols
- Knowledge of laboratory Occupational Health & Safety practices
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping skills
- Solid mathematical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to follow SOPs and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-production environment
- Positive attitude and collaborative team mindset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Quick learner with a willingness to grow
