JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time

DESCRIPTION:

The Shipper-Receiver & Bottle Preparation Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation, packing, and shipping of sample collection bottles and containers to Bureau Veritas clients in full compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and internal quality standards.  This role encompasses a diverse range of logistics and laboratory support functions, including the treatment and safe disposal of samples, and pick-up and delivery services to clients and internal departments throughout the Bedford area.

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

  • Label and/or dispense acid in bottles, when necessary, as per safety standards
  • Check the accuracy of bottles sorted to the bottle order
  • Pack bottles in coolers, ensuring sufficient packing materials and ice packs are provided as per Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Regulations
  • Ensure the bottle order paperwork is included in the cooler
  • Seal cooler with packaging tape and ensure it is safe for transport
  • Place all shipping labels on coolers as per TDG requirements
  • Separate all coolers as per delivery requirements
  • Ensure all coolers are clean and in good condition
  • Maintain bottle prep area in a clean, safe and organized manner
  • Ensure safe and timely delivery of samples, orders and other materials to and from customers
  • Dispose of all types of lab samples and maintain records
  • Heat-treat samples using an oven and maintain records
  • Chemically treat wastewater for disposal
  • Receiving, labeling, packing, and shipping sample bottles and containers
  • Maintain inventory of glassware, preservatives, and dispensing apparatus
  • Research shipping methods to find the most cost-effective and timely routes
  • Ensure all samples and hazardous chemicals are shipped in accordance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods legislation
  • Keep records of all incoming and outgoing shipments of sample bottles and containers
  • Maintain communication with personnel at other locations to ensure consistency
  • Meet quality and turnaround time specifications required by clients
  • Provide supervisor with updates on workstation status and any delays
  • Follow all procedures of the Bottle Preparation, Sample Disposal, Driving SOPs and Quality Control
  • Be proactive in the identification of problems, areas of opportunity and inform the appropriate person to act upon accordingly.
  • Provide pick-up and delivery services for parcels, samples, mail and other materialsd as required.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS [Minimum Requirements]:

 Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma required
  • Experience in a laboratory environment is considered an asset
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
  • Must possess a valid full driver’s license and have a good driving record (Copy of current drivers abstract from Ministry of Transportation is required).
  • Excellent knowledge of the local area
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and Transportation of Dangerous Goods an asset
  • Background in shipping/receiving an asset

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs

  • Flexible working hours, overtime and shift work
  • Changing priorities and balancing workload to meet tight deadlines
  • Some lifting and carrying (up to 40 lbs) and may involve long periods of standing
  • Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate equipment
