FLSA: Non-exempt

Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.

Position Summary:

The Chemist II is responsible for assisting with bioconjugation and protein purification. FPLC (Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography, HPLC, LCMS and other analytical instruments are used.  This person will work on multiple projects simultaneously and stay current with new techniques in bioconjugation and purification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Synthesis: Assist in the conjugation of proteins with various payloads, including but not limited to oligonucleotides, small molecule dyes, and others.
• Purification: Perform purification of proteins and conjugates, using established techniques on FPLC systems.
• Analysis: Conduct analytical assays to characterize proteins and conjugates, including, but not limited to, LCMS, SEC, IEX, and others.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results using ELNS.  Ensure all documentation is compliant with company standards and regulatory requirements.
• Lab Maintenance: Contribute to the maintenance of the laboratory.
• Collaboration: Work closely with senior chemists and other team members to support ongoing projects.
• Use of general laboratory equipment including but not limited to pipettors, centrifuges, incubators, biological safety cabinets and balances
• Software includes instrument-specific for capturing and analyzing data, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams/Sharepoint, etc), LIMS, electronic laboratory notebooks, etc.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and suggest technical solutions to clients and management

• Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and Company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
• Comply with clients’ and Company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
• Other duties as defined by the Manager, department needs and workload

• Hands on experience in protein purification and/or bioconjugation is a plus
• Strong laboratory skills and experience with analytical instrumentation such as AKTA, Agilent LC-MS and UPLC, Vanquish MX, Water’s QDA, as well as basic laboratory techniques and equipment (pipetting, mass spectrometry, chromatography) is required
• Basic understanding of biochemistry, bioconjugation, and stoichiometry
• Strong organizational skills and time management skills
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and conveying technical information clearly.

Education and Experience:

• Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences or a related field with 1-2 years experience or Master’s degree with 0-1 year experience.

Compensation Range: $36.00-$40.00 per hour  (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as location, education, experience, and skillset).
