Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.

 

Position Summary:

The Chemist II is responsible for assisting with synthesis and downstream processing of oligo synthesis using various analytical techniques.  FPLC (Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography, HPLC, LCMS and other analytical instruments are used.  This person will work on multiple projects simultaneously and stay current with new modifications of oligonucleotides.

  • Synthesis: Assist in the synthesis of oligonucleotides using automated synthesizers, following established protocols, ensuring accuracy in reagent preparation and reaction conditions.
  • Purification: Perform purification of oligonucleotides using techniques such as FPLC and HPLC and monitoring purification processes to achieve high quality results.
  • Analysis: Conduct analytical assays to verify the quality and identity of synthesized oligonucleotides using LC-MS
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results.  Ensure all documentation is compliant with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Lab Maintenance: Contribute to the maintenance of the laboratory.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with senior chemists and other team members to support ongoing projects.
  • Use of general laboratory equipment including but not limited to pipettors, centrifuges, incubators, biological safety cabinets and balances
  • Familiarity with various statistical analysis tools and able to solve technical problems and make recommendations for improvement
  • Work closely with members of the RNAi scale up chemistry team to understand and validate requirements for synthesis scaleup and downstream processing
  • Review literature to stay current on new methods for oligonucleotides and provide technical solutions to clients and management
  • Software includes instrument-specific for capturing and analyzing data, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams/Sharepoint, etc), LIMS, electronic laboratory notebooks, etc.
  • Detailed record keeping of daily experiments in ELNs
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and suggest technical solutions to clients and management
  • Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and Company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Comply with clients’ and Company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as defined by the Manager, department needs and workload

 

Skills & Proficiencies:

  • Hands on experience in solid phase oligonucleotide synthesis is a plus
  • Strong laboratory skills and experience with analytical instrumentation such as AKTA, Agilent LC-MS and UPLC, Vanquish LTQ, Water’s QDA, etc.
  • Experience with laboratory techniques and equipment (pipetting, mass spectrometry, chromatography) is required
  • Basic understanding of chemistry, stoichiometry and chemical synthesis
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and conveying technical information clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet or exceed deadlines
  • Individual and Team work ethic
  • Proficiency with Windows, Word & Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow protocols precisely

Education and Experience:

  • Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences or a related field with 1-2 years experience or Master’s degree with 0-1 year experience.
  • Experience with oligonucleotides helpful

 

 

Compensation Range: $36.00-$40.00 per hour  (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as location, education, experience, and skillset).
