Job Summary

Construction Project Manager – Commercial Capital Projects

Location: Eastern U.S. / Regional Travel

Travel: Approximately Approx. 30%

We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to lead commercial capital improvement projects for a growing automotive company with retail, service, and office locations across the Eastern United States.  This position will manage multiple projects involving automotive service center expansions, service bay modifications, equipment installations, interior and exterior renovations, electrical infrastructure upgrades, and EV charging installations.

Our construction projects span a variety of commercial sectors, including automotive, retail, restaurants, big-box stores, convenience stores, gas stations, distribution centers, and electric vehicle charging facilities. Projects range from tenant improvements and building renovations to facility expansions and ground-up construction.

This role requires substantial technical construction experience, including mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil construction. Candidates must understand building systems and infrastructure—not simply cosmetic renovations, finishes, or fixture installations.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on commercial construction management experience, strong technical knowledge of MEP systems, structural and civil construction, and facility renovations, and the ability to manage projects from initial site assessment through construction and closeout. Experience creating construction layouts in Bluebeam or Revit, interpreting utility surveys and soils reports, and evaluating existing building conditions is particularly important.

Experience supporting automotive dealerships, service centers, retail facilities, or similar commercial environments is highly desirable.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job does not have specific supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Construction & Capital Project Management

  • Manage multiple concurrent capital improvement, renovation, and construction projects across retail, automotive service, and office facilities.
  • Lead the full project lifecycle, including due diligence, site assessments, design coordination, approvals, permitting, preconstruction, bidding, contracting, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Support capital expenditure planning, proposal preparation, and financial evaluation of project scope, costs, and anticipated resource needs.
  • Coordinate construction and remodeling projects involving service bays, automotive lifts, interior workspaces, customer-facing offices, exterior improvements, signage, and delivery areas.
  • Manage electrical and MEP upgrades, including Level 2 and Level 3 EV charging infrastructure expansions.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, schedules, forecasts, change orders, and contractor performance.
  • Identify construction risks, resolve field challenges, and implement solutions to maintain project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Oversee construction projects across multiple sites and states simultaneously, maintaining consistent project execution, resource allocation, and delivery standards.
  • Manage facility startup, operational readiness, and formal turnover to site operations following construction completion.

Technical Construction Oversight

  • Review architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings to assess project feasibility, construction requirements, and compliance with design specifications.
  • Create, modify, and review construction layouts using Bluebeam or Revit, incorporating existing building conditions, as-built drawings, and established facility standards.
  • Read and interpret utility surveys, geotechnical and soils reports, civil site plans, and construction documents to evaluate site conditions and infrastructure requirements.
  • Manage civil construction activities, including site preparation, grading, drainage, underground utilities, foundations, and related infrastructure improvements.
  • Evaluate mechanical and structural requirements for automotive lifts, service bay modifications, equipment installations, and building alterations.
  • Coordinate directly with municipal authorities, site representatives, and local agencies to address construction requirements, site conditions, and jurisdictional considerations.
  • Review as-built drawings maintained in Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and apply established Space Type data sheets and standards available through internal knowledge systems.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, general contractors, specialty subcontractors, and equipment vendors throughout design and construction.
  • Support development and review of project layouts using Bluebeam, Revit, or comparable design and construction tools.
  • Evaluate existing building conditions and infrastructure requirements for equipment installations, structural modifications, and facility upgrades.
  • Manage contractor scopes of work, bid packages, contract structures, and subcontractor engagements for renovation projects.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders, operations leaders, contractors, and vendors, coordinating project execution, monitoring performance, communicating risks, and minimizing disruption to active facilities.
  • Anticipate project needs, recommend solutions, and maintain accurate budgets, schedules, documentation, and progress reporting using Google Sheets and web-based project management platforms.
