Job Title: Analyst 2
Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor / Laboratory Manager
Department: Organics
Location: Burnaby. B.C.
Basic Purpose:
Responsible for carrying analysis of environmental samples analysis in strict compliance to the requirements of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Health and Safety policies. Meets quality and TAT specifications required by the client and ensure samples are analyzed within holding time requirements.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:

- Prepare and analyze test samples in accordance with SOPs using complex analytical instrumentation, such as HPLC, GC-MS, GC-FID, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS, ICP-OES, KoneLab, Automated Titrator etc.
- Perform set-up, calibration and routine/ preventative maintenance of complex analytical instrumentation in accordance with SOPs.
- Process, review, and interpret analytical data. Perform calculations and enter data into LIMS.
- Prepare reagents and standards as per SOPs, and ensure standard verification is performed prior to use.
- Operate and maintain all necessary instruments and equipment to complete tasks (computers, volumetric dispensers, balances, temperature devices, etc).
- Review LIMS summary report to plan and prioritize daily work to accommodate due dates, rush requests, and hold times.
- Provide Supervisor/Manager with updates on workstation status including advance notification of any delays
- Proactively support in orders of supplies and maintains appropriate inventory levels.
- Provide training and direction to junior staff, and ensure training records are completed and maintained.
- Participate in developing, review and revise general WI’s, method SOP’s, FCD’s.
- Perform method validation studies and summarize data for method validation studies in according to SOPs and validation plans, including accuracy/precision, MDLs, MUs etc.
- Participate in internal/external audits, and contribute to investigations/corrective actions.
- Identify and document all known sample deviations, non-conformances, and/or process deviations and report to the Supervisor.
- Employ proper laboratory techniques to minimize risk of mislabeling, sample mix-up and cross
- contamination between samples and other materials
- Execute sound judgement in regards to reporting of analytical data (e.g. review interferences, assess QC and regulatory requirements, screening batches, reporting of positives etc.)
- Trouble shoot instruments and coordinate with Supervisor and external vendors to arrange and schedule service.
- Suggest and help to implement production efficiencies; recommend technical solutions for method/instrument optimization.
- Act as technical resource to Laboratory Technicians and Analysts for laboratory procedures and analyses.
- Identify and resolve analytical problems, and suggest improvements in processes.
- Help investigate and draft NSCs, and participate in the cause/corrective action of NSCs and CARs.
- Identify problems, provide feedback, and recommend solutions (technical, procedural & quality) to Supervisor. In order to make lab more effective and competitive.
- Act as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas new initiatives (operational and cultural)
- Keep work area clean, neat and organized
- All other responsibilities as assigned
Skills and Knowledge:
- Science Technical Diploma or B.Sc. or equivalent
- SVOC extractions and analysis experience with chlorinated, non-chlorinated and hydroxyl Phenols, along with Acid Base Neutrals are required for this position.
- GCMS/MS experience would be an asset
- Strong science background and experience in laboratory practices
- Competent in reviewing analytical procedures and practices
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- High degree of accuracy

The salary range for this role is $26.91 - $37.55
Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
