Job Title: Biologist 1
Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Department: Environmental
Location: Burnaby, B.C.
1 year contract
Key Accountability/Responsibilities: What specifically is this job expected to accomplish?
Maintain organism cultures. Assist with organism culture troubleshooting.
• Perform calibration and routine maintenance of instrumentation in accordance with WIs. Assist with trouble shooting
equipment issues.
• Review LIMS summary report to plan and prioritize daily work to accommodate due dates, rush requests, and hold
times.
• Prepare reagents and standards as per SOPs and WIs
• Prepare and analyze test samples in accordance with SOPs
• Provide preliminary client updates, as required
• Keep accurate records for all work
• Inform Supervisor if SOP requires clarification or updates
• Participate in internal/external audits, and contribute to MIAs, NSCs, investigations/corrective actions, when
requested
• Enter and verify data including TOXELN reporting
Skills and Knowledge: What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?
• A University Degree or a College Diploma in Sciences, preferably biology, ecotoxicology or related field with special
emphasis in the discipline of toxicity
• Two (2) years related ecotoxicology or biology laboratory experience is an asset
• Ability to keep accurate records in order to comply within GLP standards
• Self-directed and proven ability to organize, execute plans and objectives
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) as well as outstanding computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel,
Outlook etc.)
• A strong ability to work independently as well as engage others when required in escalation of concerns to meet the
client needs or to best manage client disappointments
• Energetic and keen personality with a positive outlook who thrives in a fast-paced environment where multi-tasking, prioritizing and adapting to changes are required

• Internal: Customer Service, Quality Assurance, Technical Support Groups, Human Resources, peers for support and
information
• External: Customers
Working Conditions: physical work environment, physical effort, visual and listening attention, and travel
• High level of work production in fast paced lab environment
• The job requires flexible working hours, weekends, overtime and shift work
• May involve long periods of standing
• Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate PPE

The salary range for this role is $22.62-$24.0 an hour.
Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location.
