Job Title: Scientific Specialist
Reports to: General Manager
Department: Environmental Labs – Operations
Location: Burnaby, B.C.
Basic Purpose:
-
The Scientific Specialist supports routine and moderately complex technical tasks by applying developing scientific knowledge. This role provides day-to-day technical support to Operations, Sales, and Customer Service teams, while contributing to continuous improvement, client satisfaction, and laboratory efficiency under the guidance of senior staff.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day technical support to Operations, Sales, and Customer Service teams.
- Assist with technical inquiries, troubleshooting, and escalation of complex issues.
- Support data extraction, report preparation, and client deliverables.
- Contribute to customer issue resolution and follow-up actions.
- Assist with SOP development, method updates, and validation activities.
- Perform basic data validation (Tier I) and support data review processes.
- Prepare standard and customized laboratory reports with accuracy.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency.
- Maintain compliance with regulatory, quality, and safety requirements.
- Support audits, documentation, and internal quality processes.

Working Conditions:

- Work is performed in a fast-paced, climate-controlled laboratory environment with potential exposure to chemicals and solvents. Adherence to established health and safety protocols is required at all times.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use are required to complete daily tasks.
- Frequent use of hands for typing, data entry, and operating standard office and laboratory equipment.
- Regular use of computers, printers, scanners, and other equipment necessary for documentation and reporting.
- Occasional lifting and movement of materials or supplies may be required.
- Work is conducted in an indoor laboratory setting where noise levels and environmental conditions may vary slightly.
