Join us as a Technical Leader – Ship Structure Regulations. Position based in Courbevoie (La Défense) or Nantes.

 

Join a dynamic team: Within the Development Department of the Technical Direction, you will become part of the Rules Development service and join a group of specialised engineers who :

  • Develop and maintain Bureau Veritas classification rules for cargo ships, passenger vessels and onboard equipment (e.g., wind propulsion systems)
  • Support operational teams (plan approval, construction monitoring, in service survey) and commercial teams on their technical projects

 

Your main responsibilities:

  • Needs analysis – Work with internal technical and commercial teams and with industry players to identify technical and regulatory updates required for classification rules concerning the structures of large vessels.
  • Rules development – Write classification rules based on mechanical and hydrodynamic studies that you will conduct in collaboration with our R&D department and on the feedback from operational teams.
  • Impact assessment – Analyse the design consequences of proposed rule changes, using Finite Element Method (FEM) calculations or other in house calculation tools.
  • Operational support – Assist plan approval, construction monitoring and in service teams on technical and regulatory matters.
  • Technical communication – Present regulatory updates at seminars, and produce reports and summary notes.
  • R&D & partnerships – Contribute to research and development projects with industrial partners.
  • International group participation – Contribute to the work of IACS, IMO and other organisations, bringing in the technical expertise developed internally.

 

Your strengths for success:

  • Education & experience – Degree in naval architecture or structural engineering, solid knowledge of material strength and FEM, and at least one successful experience in shipbuilding and metallic construction.
  • Language skills – Fluent spoken and written English to interact effectively with customers, colleagues and our international network.
  • Personal qualities – Rigour, team spirit, autonomy, proactive, strong analytical and synthesis abilities; you build trusted relationships with stakeholders.
  • Additional skills – Good command of IT tools, strong writing and interpersonal abilities. Familiarity with classification rules is a plus.
