As a Battery Energy Storage Systems Engineering Consultant at Bureau Veritas, you will lead BESS Technical Advisory and Independent Engineering in the Middle East, Caspian Sea region. This position will be based in Dubai, UAE or within the region and ideal for a proactive and self-driven individual who will be responsible for conducting energy storage resource assessments, evaluating project designs, and supporting clients through all phases of the project lifecycle, from development to construction. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in BESS system design, energy modeling, and commercial fundamentals, along with excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.
This position requires the ability to interpret technical aspects of contracts, understand all aspects of battery energy storage technologies, and engage clients to deliver high-quality solutions. Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's/BTech degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution
- Proficiency in energy storage resource assessment, BESS performance modeling, and relevant tools
- 8+ years of experience in the energy storage sector with the ability to interpret relevant regulations, codes, and standards
- 6+ years of related industry experience in the power sector, particularly in the development, construction, or operations of plants, with a strong understanding of independent engineering practices
- Expertise in technical specifications which affect performance for battery systems, inverters, power conversion systems (PCS), balance of system (BOS) components, and energy management systems (EMS), with the ability to assess the legitimacy of technical specifications, claims, warranties, and commercial contract requirements
- Strong knowledge of BESS technologies, including lithium-ion, lead-acid, flow batteries, thermal storage, and other emerging storage solutions
- Understanding of grid interconnection requirements for BESS systems and regulatory frameworks
- Proven ability to manage projects and coordinate subject matter experts (SMEs) to meet deadlines and client expectations
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
- Experience working in the Middle East, Caspian Sea region is vital
- Willingness to travel as needed (25% or less) to energy storage sites, conferences, and events

- Conducts pre-construction, independent engineering (IE), and operational energy assessments, including due diligence, validation of engineering designs, and review of commercial contracts
- Reviews engineering designs and optimizes BESS plant configurations to align with client requirements and grid stability objectives
- Performs energy storage resource assessments and analyzes BESS system designs, technologies, and commercial fundamentals
- Provide technical support for Independent Engineering (IE) and Lender's Technical Advisor (LTA) services across multiple global BESS projects
- Interprets and communicates technical aspects of commercial contracts, including interconnection, equipment supply, construction, and O&M agreements
- Identifies risks and opportunities related to technical designs (civil, geotechnical, electrical, and energy management) and commercial agreements
- Analyzes project deals, assessing commercial risks associated with technical inputs and design
- Evaluates BESS performance metrics, including round-trip efficiency, degradation rates, cycle life, and warranty terms
- Assesses grid integration challenges and provides recommendations for optimal BESS system operation and dispatch strategies
- Continuously supports the BESS team by developing useful methodologies and mastering subject matter during downtime
- Contributes to and reviews deliverables, such as energy reports and technical analyses, ensuring accuracy and clarity for clients
- Assists in establishing and maintaining company quality standards for energy storage projects
- Supports business development by meeting with clients, clearly explaining technical details and project aspects
- Attends and presents at regional renewable energy and storage conferences
- Routinely interacts with regional energy storage clients and potential clients, maintaining good relationships
- Determines client needs for BESS energy work and prepares successful proposals
- Meets or exceeds financial goals and targets
