POSITION PROFILE

 

Job Title:                           Field Technician 2

Reports to (title):              Field Supervisor

Department:                      Petroleum

 

Basic Purpose:   What is the overall function of the job? 

 

  • Field sampling of various product and process streams.  Provide limited or specific technical expertise to our customers.  Provide support and training to other group employees.  Ensure the production of high quality, legally defensible data and reports, safely and on time.  Provide excellent customer service.

 

Key Accountability/Responsibilities:   What specifically is this job expected to accomplish? 

 

  • Conducts basic and more complex field sampling projects. Includes preparation of equipment and chemicals, client confirmation and site-specific safety training, field sampling, field QA/QC of data, collection of field data, filling out daily WHA forms and daily field reports, turning over of completed data to reporting in a timely manner.
  • Suggests and implements production efficiencies.
  • Mentors and trains new and junior staff on test methods with proficiency.
  • Ensures use of personal gas monitors during field projects.
  • Reviews field data to ensure sampling is completed as per applicable test methods and protocols.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, repair and calibration at direction of Supervisor
  • Communicates with the Supervisor to ensure the correct level of supplies
  • Provides excellent customer service by always presenting a professional attitude and representing Bureau Veritas in a positive way; complying with all client and Bureau Veritas safety initiatives and rules; providing technical support and expertise to our clients; ensuring that all Client requests and expectations are met
  • Ensures vehicle fleet is maintained in clean, working order
  • Ensures work areas are kept clean at all times
  • Performs QA/QC of data as required by Reporting or Management
  • Acting as an agent of positive change in supporting Bureau Veritas’s new operating and cultural initiatives.
  • Ensures daily use of personal monitors, and use of all required PPE
  • Adheres to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy
  • Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program
  • Participates in lab health and safety meetings
  • Participates, when requested in internal and external audits
  • Provides general lab support to other departments as required
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

 

Skills and Knowledge:  What skills and knowledge are used to carry out job responsibilities and solve problems?

 

  • 2-year technical diploma or 2-5 years relevant related work experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience performing sampling services
  • Good understanding of well and plant process techniques and concepts
  • Excellent and current knowledge of sampling methods and theories
  • Willingness to travel and work extended hours in the field
  • Knowledge of safe work procedures and requirements
  • Skills: problem solving, effective communication, energetic, motivated, positive, analytical mindset
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office capabilities
  • Flexibility to deal with different situations and personalities
  • Good time-management, communication, multi-tasking and priority setting skills
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Detail orientated & record keeping skills
  • Ability to accurately follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and instructions

Work Relationships

 

  • Internal: Customer Service, Sales, technical support groups, Human Resources, purchasing, management, staff from other locations
  • External: Daily interaction with customers and clients

 

 

Working Conditionsphysical work environment, physical and mental effort, visual/listening attention and travel

 

  • Work mainly consists of out of town travel.
  • Work is mainly out of doors, so ambient conditions must always be expected.
  • Must be able to perform heavy lifting.
  • Must be able to work extended hours.
  • Must be able to work in a safe manner in possibly noisy environments, with the possibility of exposure to airborne contaminants and fumes.
  • Must be able to lead a crew, and ensure the job is completed on schedule, to the client and management’s satisfaction.
