Laboratory Technician in Textile Microbiology

Role Description Responsible for the technical oversight, development, and execution of microbiological testing activities, ensuring compliance with laboratory quality standards, accreditation requirements, and client expectations. The position supports the implementation of new testing capabilities, method validation, personnel development, and continuous improvement of microbiological services, including textile, consumer product, material, environmental, and antimicrobial testing applications.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide technical oversight of microbiological testing activities and laboratory operations.
· Perform, review, and approve microbiological analyses according to applicable international standards and client requirements.
· Implement, verify, validate, and maintain microbiological test methods.
· Develop and expand laboratory testing capabilities, including antimicrobial efficacy methods such as AATCC 100 and other emerging technologies.
· Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements and support accreditation activities.
· Establish, maintain, and improve microbiology quality systems, procedures, and technical documentation.
· Train, mentor, and assess laboratory personnel competency.
· Prepare, review, and interpret technical reports and test results.
· Support investigations, root cause analyses, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Ensure compliance with biosafety requirements, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and laboratory safety procedures.
· Support research, development, innovation, and new business opportunities related to microbiological testing.
· Maintain, verify, and oversee laboratory equipment, calibration, and preventive maintenance programs.
· Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders regarding technical requirements, test method interpretation, and laboratory capabilities.
Technical Knowledge
· General and applied microbiology.

· Laboratory instrumentation, equipment qualification, calibration, and maintenance.
· Statistical evaluation and interpretation of microbiological data.

Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
· Minimum 5 years of practical microbiology laboratory experience (8+ years preferred).
· Experience with microbiological culture techniques, microbial enumeration, identification, and method validation.
· Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems and laboratory accreditation requirements.
· Previous technical leadership, supervisory, or project management experience preferred.
· Experience with antimicrobial efficacy testing, product testing, materials testing, or textile-related applications is highly desirable.
· Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
· Proficiency in English preferred.
