The Verification & Process Safety Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and commenting on customer facility designs with the purpose of verifying the conformance of those plans to proper industry standards and best practices. Typical projects include Certified Verification Agent (CVA) and Independent Verification Body (IVB) representation for customer development and expansion projects, though design review and certification work will also be needed. The expectations for this position include:

 

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Meet with customers to understand their needs and concerns about the jurisdictional rules that a facility must follow
•    Develop verification plans as needed to support regulatory requirements and communicate the inspections and data review that will be necessary as a project progresses
•    Review information given by customers or their vendors to verify that the proper standards have been followed for the project
•    Comment on any nonconformance or poor practice in the designs, recommending changes if appropriate
•    Manage inspection scheduling and reporting through communication with other BV departments and offices
•    Risk Assessment & Analysis: Facilitate PHA, HAZID/HAZOP, and LOPA activities and review results from these analyses
•    Oversee MOC systems and PSSR to ensure safety parameters are maintained during plant modifications
•    Safety Safeguards: Manage the performance requirements of safety-critical equipment (e.g., SIS and relief valves) and conduct facility siting studies
•    Ensure site compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) regulations
•    Incident Investigation: Lead root cause analyses for process safety events and track the implementation of corrective actions
•    Aid business development group in identifying new ways BV’s technical capabilities can provide value for customers


 ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES
•    Successfully deliver timely and accurate design review reports to clients
•    Achieve strategic objectives defined by company management
•    Help develop and execute strategic account plans to meet customer needs


 ORGANIZATIONAL ALIGNMENT
•    Reports to the Director of Operation for BVNAM – Energy Technical Center
•    Collaborates with the VP of Business Development on proposal preparation for new opportunities utilizing engineering support

 

 QUALIFICATIONS
•    Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Process Engineering
•    10+ years of experience in the oil and gas sector
•    Deep understanding of RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices), NFPA, API and ISO standards; familiar with UK Safety Case
•    Strong communication skills to deliver results to people with varying technical backgrounds and make appropriate recommendations as needed
•    Professional Engineer licensure and/or formal PHA/HAZOP Facilitator training strongly preferred
•    Analytical ability to modify standard patterns in order to develop new business lines and capabilities
•    Project management capability to direct and participate in projects with several consultants and deliverables
•    Ability to travel within the US and abroad (about 20%)

 

 

Compensation: $130k-$140k, plus bonus
