What will you do?

As an Environmental Compliance Engineer, you will be responsible for inspecting, certifying and verifying data related to emissions from the maritime transport sector. With the Paris climate agreement, a course has been set towards a carbon-neutral economy, resulting in a succession of new laws and regulations in shipping.

An example of these new laws and regulations that we are working on is the EU ETS. This is a Cap & Trade system that will also be introduced in the maritime sector from 2024. This means that from 2024 onwards, ships will have to pay for their CO2 emissions. One of our tasks will be to verify the data provided by ships. For this, it is important to be aware of the rules that are in force and to have a certain affinity with numbers.

In addition to this development, there are also developments in the field of biofuels, the loading and unloading of ballast water, the identification of harmful substances on board in connection with recycling and the use of sustainable coatings and adhesives.

Summarized:

  • Accurately verify and analyze the data provided with regard to environmental compliance;
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging environmental laws and regulations and make the existing rules your own;
  • Communicate with your clients about the current assignments.
