About the Role

Within our Dutch Plan Approval Department, you will join a team of experienced specialists dedicated to assessing the structural design of ships and offshore installations. You will work in an environment where maritime innovation, safety and engineering excellence come together. Your role focuses on ensuring that hull structures meet Bureau Veritas Rules, statutory requirements and international conventions while guiding clients through the design and construction process.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and approving hull structural drawings for a diverse range of vessel types such as yachts, workboats, tankers, dredgers, inland vessels and offshore units.
  • Evaluating compliance with Class Rules, SOLAS, MARPOL, IACS Unified Requirements, CSR and other international standards.
  • Supporting shipyards, engineering firms and designers with technical guidance throughout the design and construction phases.
  • Assessing design documentation for newbuilds, conversions and vessels already in service.
  • Identifying technical inconsistencies or conflicts in design requirements and providing practical, compliant solutions.
  • Preparing detailed technical reports and documentation related to structural evaluations.
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues within the global Bureau Veritas network on complex plan approval matters.

Beyond this, you will also be involved in discussions on technical developments, new materials, and regulatory changes within the maritime sector. With the industry's increasing focus on sustainability, digital tools and advanced structural analysis, you will play a role in shaping safe and future‑proof design solutions. Whether analysing FEM results, evaluating buckling or fatigue considerations, or assessing fabrication and welding practices, your work will have a direct impact on the safety, quality and performance of vessels built around the world!

About You

You are passionate about naval architecture and eager to further develop your expertise in ship structures. You are naturally curious, detail-oriented and motivated by delivering high‑quality technical work in a rapidly evolving industry.

You recognise yourself in the following profile:

  • Several years of experience in the maritime sector; experience in ship structural design, plan approval or shipbuilding environments is an advantage;
  • Strong understanding of ship structural principles, materials, welding standards and classification society rules;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, shipyards, engineering firms and internal stakeholders;
  • Good communication and reporting skills in English (Dutch is an advantage);
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining oversight and accuracy;
  • Comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment;
  • A proactive mindset with willingness to stay informed about evolving maritime regulations and technologies.
