Compensation Range: $26.00-$28.00 per hour (e.g. the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as location, education, experience and skillset.)
Hours Worked:Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.
Position Summary:
The Biologist II will be primarily responsible for performing testing in cell biology, biochemistry, assay development, and validation. The person will perform in vitro biochemical and cellular assays to characterize diseases processes and novel therapeutics in cardiorenal space.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, validate and implement in vitro cell based and biochemical assays to support cardiorenal and metabolic research projects independently
- Perform cell culture, including cell line generation (stable and transient transfection) and molecular biology/biochemistry techniques (gene and protein expression profiling and enzymatic assays)
- Introduce and maintain state-of-the-art technologies with respect to cardiorenal and metabolic diseases, including developing and implementing assays with engineered cell lines, primary cells and human IPS-derived cells
- Develop and perform assays including enzymology, protein-protein interactions, receptor pharmacology and kinetics
- Use of liquid handler automation including Integra and Hamilton instrumentation
- Strong troubleshooting skills of assays and instrumentation
- Maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment including centrifuges, pipettes, spectrophotometers, ELISA readers, as well as specialized equipment necessary to support the laboratory
- Record data in Electronic Lab Notebooks
- Perform data analysis, critical evaluation of data
- Competency to conduct independent research projects
- Good communication skills and presentation of data to management and cross-functional project teams in written and oral formats
- Excellent planning, notetaking, organization and multitasking in performance of daily tasks
- Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies
- Follow guidelines set forth by clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
- Other duties as defined by manager, department needs and workload
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Experience with cellular and molecular biology techniques
- Willingness to work with radioisotopes as well as chemical and biological hazards
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and willingness to learn new skills and responsibilities
- Professional, clear and concise communication required in written and verbal formats
- Proven Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and PowerPoint skills
- Ability to learn quickly and understand job specific software
- Ability to understand basic scientific terminology and communicate it to others
- Team oriented and ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Proven multi-tasker that thrives on juggling multiple projects in a deadline driven environment
- Possess strong organizational skills with ability to quickly assess project status and communicate it effectively

Education and Experience:
- Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Biology with experience in biochemistry and cellular and molecular biology
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in laboratory environment
- Research experience in designing, validating, performing and analyzing in vitro experiments
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
