Hours Worked: Typically, Monday through Friday, forty-hours per week. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned.
Position Summary:
The Lab Services Specialist III is responsible for keeping instruments running, inventory stocked, and safety standards upheld. In addition, the Lab Services Specialist III is responsible for coordinating internal transfers and outbound sample and material shipments. This role is expected to have a high level of client and vendor interaction with a focus on supporting laboratory research. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of initiative and will be motivated, energetic, and forward thinking.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintain reliable instrument uptime across both chemistry labs through proactive preventive maintenance, vendor coordination, and hands-on troubleshooting.
- Develop tracking and documentation systems and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repairs for lab instruments (e.g. oligonucleotide synthesizers, FPLC/AKTA, HPLC/UPLC, chromatography systems, KF instruments, balances, automation equipment); serve as primary liaison with service vendors.
- Manage organizational instrument inventory, service contract renewals and annual maintenance scheduling with 3rd party vendors.
- Keep the labs consistently well-stocked, organized, and audit-ready through disciplined inventory management and supply planning.
- Manage inventory of oligonucleotides, amidites, reagents, and chemicals; implement sample management and tracking systems; make independent purchasing decisions for routine supplies.
- Uphold lab safety standards as the labs' Safety Representative, driving inspections and continuous compliance.
- Support internal transfers and outbound shipping in partnership with scientists and the client’s Shipping department — primarily internal transfers and domestic (~90% of volume) with a less frequent but more complex share of international shipments (~10%).
- Receive, organize, and distribute incoming chemicals and packages; maintain instrument logs and service records.
- Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the Company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Comply with clients and Company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
- Follows the guidelines set forth by clients and the Company Quality Manual and Safety / Chemical Hygiene Plan.
- Adhere to the requirements of the Company Quality System.
- Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.
Skills & Proficiencies:
- Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting, particularly chromatography systems (FPLC, HPLC) and/or automated synthesis equipment. Experience with oligonucleotide synthesizers, chromatography systems, or similar automated lab equipment.
- Background in synthetic chemistry laboratory environments, with basic troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude for instrument repair.
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills – being approachable, demonstrate initiative, adaptable, and project a positive attitude.
- Strong foundation in problem solving and process improvement: must be flexible, open-minded, and creative.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or closely related field
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience with relevant laboratory experience, inventory management, and safety protocols
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
Compensation Range: $26.00-$29.00 per hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as location, education, experience, and skillset).
